30 years in the field. No coding background. Built 3 apps in 12 months. Here’s what I learned.
I’m a 30-year EOD/UXO veteran based in Kuwait. No computer science degree. No team. No funding.
12 months ago I decided to build the tools I always wished existed in the field.
Here’s what I shipped:
MapNero — A professional field mapping app for iOS. GeoPDF creation, GeoTIFF, Shapefile, GeoPackage, external GNSS, MIL-STD-2525D military symbology, team collaboration. Built because Avenza wasn’t good enough and cost too much.
StreamEar — An OSINT-based real-time audio alert system. RSS, Telegram, and social media ingestion, LLM classification, push notifications with threat prioritization.
BallisticEdge Pro — A precision ballistics calculator for long-range shooters. G1-G8 drag models, Coriolis, spin drift, 140+ reticle library.
All built solo. All on the App Store. All using AI as my co-developer.
What I learned: domain expertise beats coding skills. I didn’t know how to build apps. But I knew exactly what needed to exist. That clarity made everything else possible.
Still early. But proud of what’s been built.
Happy to answer any questions from other solo founders.
