Well, That’s Rare

I haven’t seen a 155 in donkeys years, given that they dwell the wrong side of Yorkshire to me and when they do encroach upon my territory, I’m always busy or at college… and yet here we are FINALLY

Here’s unit 155 341 shot yesterday in Platform 14 after a York to Leeds service, apparently covering for a failed 195?

Dare I say this is one of the rarest DMU’s in the UK now?

Nothing but a Blur

I could probably do with getting an ND filter at some point… 🤷

Anyways, I felt like experimenting more with my new camera, and given that I had enough unchecked arrogance to think it would be good for pitch black night photography (it wasn’t), I was happy to deviate a bit

Here’s a couple long exposure shots taken at my local station. This was such a fun experiment to be fair (apart from the rain)…

Local Flowers

I had this morning free, so I decided to pop around my local town and the wonderful flowers planted by our dedicated and passionate Britain in Bloom volunteers. It’s great to see such strong colours against the comparatively desert-like state of the grass 😂

Still One of the Best Liveries in Operation

I’ve always been fond of TPE’s Shattered Glass, but it really is quite a striking livery, especially when lit by the sun. Say what you want about their reliability or services or whatever, but they’ve definitely got their presentation on point

New Camera Test

With a new Nikon D750 under my belt, I decided to do a test shoot today, seeing how well my camera responds to the very quick changes of lighting

Here’s a quick series of shots I took just to the west of Mirfield, including some Northern 158s and 150s, TPE 185s and 802s, and one of Grand Central’s 180s

A Thoughtful Tribute - Rob Burrow

Northern re-liveried one of their Civity 195 units - 195 107 - in tribute of Rob Burrow, famous for raising awareness for MND after his beyond successful career in Rugby

It’s great to see such a sport and charity personality to be remembered and appreciated like this, especially after me and my Dad met Rob and his family shortly before his passing

Given that the lighting made a side-on shot quite poor, I wasn’t able to get a clear side shot, but I have borrowed from the official MND Association Twitter incase people aren’t aware of how it looks

Keeping Me sen Busy

I’ve been trying to get out and about more to help my mental health a bit, which led me to spending the day in Manchester yesterday! Didn’t ride owt, but I did tick a lot of trains off my photography bucket list, including the 390, 156, 323 and 769

Anyway, here’s some of my better shots from Man Picc and Deansgate

PS: The shot of 158799 is unedited (idk why the edited one didn’t post 🫤), so it’s not looking the prettiest

Hello, Hello, Yellow

Mmmmm, my normal commuter trains with added ✨spice✨ and some yellow food colouring

This rather yellow specimen is a one of a kind Class 950, and apparently it hasn’t got long left… well, at least I’ve seen it now, incase it spontaneously decides to prematurely die

Shot at Mirfield earlier this morning

The Old and The New

LNER’s historic and widely loved train, appreciated by thousands of transport enthusiasts across the country… meets with the Class 91

HAHAHA IM JOKING IM JOKING

Anyways, here’s an shot of both 91111 and a mystery 80x at Leeds from yesterday

Britpop Tribute Act - TZ60 / ZS60

A rather dapper Liam Gallagher doppelgänger came to one of my local pubs and put on a great act, with a great variety of Oasis and Britpop songs

I really didn’t expect this compact to perform so well in low light conditions… I might take it to concerts more often now… maybe…

Street Photography Reshoot in Leeds - TZ60 / ZS60

As a follow up to my initial street photography photoshoot, inspired by Mark Fearnley, I wanted to experiment more with it and use more places across Leeds before the sun hibernates for the next 2 weeks… I hate summers in the uk bro…

These edits are quite ‘preliminary’, and when I get back to college after these summer holidays, I’ll end up doing hopefully some more refined edits as part of my coursework.

Dare I Say the Cross Country refurb looks… ok?

After the Cross Country gods gave me 3 refurbished units to photograph in a 10 minute period at Leeds, I’m becoming to grow for it.

It’s really striking, but I won’t say it’s perfect - the red and grey coach combination could be smoothed out a bit, maybe with a transition of some sort, akin to the 170s, which do it really well in my eyes - and I’m not going to sugar coat the fact that they’re still putting 4 coach services on Edinburgh to Penzance services… yeahhh, that’s not great…

Either way, it’s good that these units are becoming much more presentable and have a new fresh look, but it really should be the priority to either aim for new units or make some form of semi-permanent sets on services that don’t divide. Oh well… hopefully GBR tidies some stuff up, or am I being too hopeful

I Can’t Read, I Can’t Write…

But that don’t really matter, cos I’m a Bristol City fan, and I can drive a tractor

Booking work off last night to dodge working in the England match AND to see this cheeky bugger twice was really worth it, seeing how the uh… how the photos turned out… and there’s definitely no other reason why I’m glad… at all…

Anyways, here’s West Coast Railway’s 37 706 leading the charge of the Scarborough Spa Express return trip - 1Z66 - from Scarborough to Lancaster, passing at Mirfield

Planespotting W/ a Compact - TZ60 / ZS60

Out of pure boredom yesterday, I decided to trial some planespotting at Leeds Bradford Airport with my little compact. It wasn’t exactly the best experience, but I was pleasantly surprised by some of the shots, even with the ‘Wibbly wobbly air’ that was omnipresent far down the runway

Leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeds

Happened to get the oh-so-stalky 158 903 in its Railway 200 livery, and then I remembered… I hadn’t taken a static photo of it yet! Oh my goodness! This absolutely hellish non ac machine actually BLESSED me yesterday!!!!
(If you can tell, I’m taking the biscuit here)

I was bored waiting for my service home, so I pratted about a bit in Leeds station

Hebden Bridge - TZ60 / ZS60

I completely underestimated how warm Friday last week was… so I found myself in a sweltering Hebden Bridge with the intention of staying for the day (naturally, it very quickly became a flying visit)

It got to the point where anything shot in the distance became distorted by the humidity / heat / whatever, I don’t know weather very well

Up Close & Personal

Mirfield’s new footbridge has really made for some interesting and unique angles for photography not possible before, including some very up close areas, which was - of course - the only reason why the footbridge was built… of course…

Trust me with this

Street Photoshoot in Leeds w/ TZ60 / ZS60

As part of my A Level studies, I decided to go out of my comfort zone and attempt some street photography. My main intention was to base this shoot off of Mark Fearnley - an artist / photographer who primarily shoots / edits in B&W. However, I did decide to be a bit more adventurous with some shots and get some colour in.

One main feature of Mark’s work is his strong contrast and simple scenes. Given that I have limited funds, transport options and time, I had to ‘cope’ with what I had, which I think liberated me a bit mentally.
I’m really proud of this shoot, and I finally feel as if I’ve developed my eye for composition and editing skills.
