Paiste Sound Creation Mellow Ride 20"
Do any Paiste experts here know anything about the Sound Creation Mellow ride?
I've had this ride in my collection for about 25 years now and I've played it a lot, but I don't actually know much about it or what it's worth. I believe it's a Sound Creation Mellow Ride, but I'm not sure.
It's a 20" ride that's almost flat, with just a hint of a bell. It has three rivet holes that look (to my untrained eye) like they were done in the factory, but no rivets. The marking on top of the cymbal is almost completely faded, but I can make out "ME???? RIDE 20," which could be either "Medium" or "Mellow."
The serial number is 6856317, which is confusing because the internet says Paiste serials are usually 6 or 8 digits. The 6 at the beginning of the serial number looks different than the rest of the number - it's not embossed as deeply, and it's not quite aligned with the other numbers.
I called Paiste customer service, and they said Mellow Ride was their best guess.
The cymbal.wiki entry for the Sound Creation 20" Mellow Ride has this note under "Weight":
"2528g, 2550g (3 rivets), 2602g (1978 Serial Number, but sent back to factory in 1986, so 7 digit serial that begins with "6"(?))"
My questions:
Is this indeed a Mellow Ride?
Is it possible that this was a 3-rivet model that was sent back to the factory, which explains why it has the 7-digit serial number?
If that is the reason for the 7-digit serial number, does that mean this cymbal was manufactured in 1985?
Any thoughts on value?
