I don't get endgame builds/grind.

So I use the DPS meter, and sometimes I wonder if I'm missing an entire third of the mechanics of this game, because I see people putting out numbers I don't have a fart in the wind's chance of reaching.

As far as my builds go, 70+ DPS is already very good. In fact, the majority of co-opers I play with remain below that, and I try to copy the meta builds from the compilation, so I'm fairly confident I'm not missing anything there.

But every once in a while, one guy comes around casually dropping 150-200 DPS. Just had an SnS'er who joined and beat up AT Ark in 10 mins, while my solo PB is 25.

Like how even. Is the difference between no/one good skill + 3 good rolls on a Gogmartian, and two good skills + godrolls really more than DOUBLE the DPS? Or is it just a godcharm or smn.

It's not like SnS is particularly hard to execute either. And it doesn't help that every speedrun video I watch is running a different build than the meta doc lol.

Can someone drop my the definitive best SnS and/or Swaxe build for Ark that I can aim for? Plus all the tools and buffs and when to use them. Cuz I have no idea what to farm rn, now that I have all the Gog and Gamma stuff.

The Swaxe: What The Hell Is Even That

Recently picked up the swaxe, and it inspired me to write a damn essay about the weapon because of how weirdly cool it is.

It's basically the Frankenstein's Monster of MH weapons, is it not?

You got features from:

  • CB (obviously, morphing, phials, Savage axe and Amped blade)
  • DB (the switch gauge)
  • LS (the sword mode counter)
  • GS (the axe mode offset, the sword mode movement, and FRS feels like TCS)
  • HH (the axe neutrals are similar to HH notes)
  • GL (stick it in and go boom)

And then some crazy-ass dev went "hmm this isnt unique enough" so now you can glormp onto monsters like some kinda human-sized leech. I can imagine your character laughing maniacally while hanging off a rampaging Omega.

Truly a weapon for the confused and the insane, I love it. Friendship over with DB. Swaxe is my friend now.

Hi yall, just had two straight hours of carting, so I thought I'd put my thoughts down on paper and see if I can find the most meager measure of companionship for my salt here.

Here's my dogshit takes on difficulty in MH Wilds.

#AT Arkveld

Peak.

This monster is right up there with the best souls bosses (very reminiscent of Bayle already, one of my favs). His attacks are super well telegraphed, and very intuitive to deal with on every single weapon.

The only unfortunate thing is how Bow is probably my most favorite match up against him (CURSE YOU BAYLE), it feels like a beautiful tango between you two...

...but then you stub your toe on a rock and he one-shots you through maxed armor and armor drug. If I wanted to play *that* risky, I'd do a level 1 ER playthrough.

#AT Nu Udra and Rey Dau

Clubbing these two gentlemonsters together because I find them equally fun and balanced.

Not as peak as Ark, because dealing with some of their mechanics (like Nu's splooge on Lances) is more of a build check rather than a skill check, but those moments are few and far between.

Rey is honestly a tad easier than it needs to be.

#Tempered Gore Magala

The sneaky mfer. I did NOT expect this bitch to be as much of a bitch as it was. He's basically Midir on cocaine.

His divebomb is unintuitive in that its hard to tell if he's gonna feint or not, his non-enraged breath hitbox is crazy, and he gives you zero breathing room to heal.

Difficult but not entirely fun imo.

#Gogmazios

Kind of ass.

If I had to make a comparison, fighting Gog is like fighting Rykard without Serpent Hunter. Kinda gimmicky, it probably takes the same amount of time, you're dodging RNG shit for the latter half of the fight.

He's hard... but the annoying kind of hard where you're not instantly carting, but keep taking hits that feel out of your control.

#Savage Omega

Now for my most controversial take. Yes you saw that right.

I think this clanker is harder than PCR.

Look, I took 33 tries to beat PCR my first time *with Ansbach and Mimic Tear*. I've now gotten good enough to solo him probably 80% of the time, and have helped randoms beat him often.

This shit's harder bro.

The hardest part of the fight is how it takes so long but feels *unlearnable*. Here's a transcript of my inner monologue during my third attempt:

> Ok MRV spam, but I have a shield so I block right?

> *block*, *block*, *gets hit*, *gets comboed to death*

> wtf? I still had stamina? Whatever, its doing lasers and MRVs now, let's wait.

> *2 hours later* ok its done, let's go grab enmity before it starts up again

> *it starts up again*

The whole fight is just me asking "when is it my turn to play"? I only play with NPCs and trusting Alyssa to take enmity is like trusting Patches with your belongings.

And this is *with* the easy dodge weapons like DB, SnS and Bow. I have zero clue how you're supposed to do this with the slower weapons, let alone shit like IG where you have zero defense.

And yeah, one answer is just to practice exact positioning long enough to basically script the fight but that's... such a weird target to aim for lol.

As opposed to my first few times with regular Omega, the Nerscylla part is actually a calming reprieve, a break from the absolute fuckery of the clanker.

#Conclusion

Anyway, that's my difficulty review. Monsters that I've left out are either too easy, too simple or not particularly noteworthy/comparable to souls design, but that doesn't mean they're bad (my second fav mon is Lagi).

How many of yall agree? BTW this is my first MH and my fav souls boss is Messmer.
