Bellingham Mariners 1987 sealed set
Came across a yard sale today and met a retired gentleman selling his extensive sports memorabilia collection. I purchased quite of bit of minor league cards, including Roger Clemens, Dwight Gooden, Randy Johnson, Deion Sanders, Garry Sheffield, and John Smoltz. eBay gives me a relative idea of what these are worth, but I think the most interesting pull is the Bellingham Mariners sealed set.
Obviously the highlight of the set is the King Griffey Jr card. eBay has both the card (that I’m assuming is the card in this set) and sealed sets themselves at pretty high prices.
So my question is, not what this is worth, but what I should do? Card collectors, what is your opinion? Keep it sealed? Or break it and pull the card to hardcase/grade?
I don’t intend on selling anything. I will die with most of my sports memorabilia I hope, but I do want to maintain and maximize their value in my lifetime.
So I’m curious what other people’s opinions are. Let me know your thoughts!
