UAE credit card debt – AED 50K+ debt, salary AED 4,500. What should I do?

Hi everyone,

I need advice from anyone who has dealt with UAE credit-card debt/collections.

I have 4 cards with total debt of around AED 53,000+:

  • ENBD: ~AED 26,000
  • Aafaq: ~AED 17,500
  • FAB: ~AED 7,500
  • ADCB: ~AED 5,000

My salary is AED 4,500/month, and after rent and basic family expenses, I have very little left.

Banks/collection agencies are contacting me and mentioning legal action. I am not refusing to pay and have been requesting hardship settlements, but the amounts offered are unaffordable.

For anyone with similar UAE experience:

  • What happens if a civil case is filed?
  • Is it better to keep negotiating?
  • Can significant hardship discounts be obtained?
  • Are there legitimate debt-help organizations?

Any practical advice would be greatly appreciated.
