Stuck on the Meltan Fossil Quest? Use the "Mixed Biome + Route" Method (Data Inside!)
Hey everyone,
If you are stuck on Stage 8 of the "Let's GO, Meltan" Special Research (Catch 2 Lileep/Anorith, Catch 2 Omanyte/Kabuto, and Aerodactyl), stop looking for old info.
First, a quick update: The "Make 3 Great Throws" i tried looking for it everywhere, span hundreds of pokestops, gained it twice and reward was only 1 rare candy. It no longer gives fossil rewards (or i didint find one that does).
Weather also doesn't seem to impact this.
Instead, I found a definitive way to beat this quest in just a few days during a non-event week using the new biome and route mechanics.
The Strategy:
Find a Mixed Biome: Look for a location where a Water Biome (lake, river, beach) overlaps with a Park/Forest Biome.
Walk Routes: Find player-made Routes that run through this overlapping biome area.
Pop a Regular Incense: Use a standard Incense while walking these specific Routes.
The Data (My results over 3 days, doing 2-3 twenty-minute routes per day):
Because of the overlapping biomes combined with Route/Incense spawn modifiers, there was a few fossil spawns each trip trought the route.
I caught:
Anorith: 9
Lileep: 3
Omanyte: 11
Kabuto: 20
Aerodactyl: 6
(Bonus) Tyrunt: 12
