a Sync (Armoury Crate) only detects 1 of my 2 XPG RAM sticks, but OpenRGB previously proved both RAM LEDs work. How to fix?
Hi everyone, I need some advice troubleshooting an RGB issue with my RAM.
PC specs:
- Motherboard: ASUS TUF GAMING B760M-PLUS WIFI D4
- RAM: 2x XPG Spectrix D50 DDR4 RGB
- GPU: Zotac RTX 5080 AMP
- Windows 11
Originally I was using ASUS Armoury Crate / Aura Sync to control my RGB.
At some point, Aura Sync stopped controlling both RAM sticks correctly. It can currently control one RAM stick, but the other RAM stick doesn't respond. Sometimes the GPU also stops responding depending on which RGB software I have installed/running.
I then tried OpenRGB to determine whether the RAM RGB hardware itself was dead.
OpenRGB was able to detect both RAM sticks separately:
ENE DRAM — I2C 0x71
ENE DRAM — I2C 0x73
However, detecting the RAM does not mean I can actually control the LEDs. OpenRGB can see both RAM devices, but changing the LED color does not reliably work. At one point, I was able to control the RAM LEDs using OpenRGB commands, but after reinstalling Armoury Crate/Aura Sync and changing the RGB software setup, the behavior became inconsistent again.
ASUS Armoury Crate currently only detects/controls one of the two RAM sti
More importantly, I was able to control BOTH RAM sticks individually using OpenRGB CLI:
- device 0 → changed color successfully
- device 1 → changed color successfully
So at least during those tests, both RAM RGB controllers/LEDs were working.
I also installed PawnIO because OpenRGB initially showed:
"Failed to load SmbusPIIX4.bin"
"PawnIO initialization aborted"
After installing PawnIO, OpenRGB was able to detect and control both RAM sticks.
I also tried SkyDimo + OpenRGB Bridge. SkyDimo could detect all 3 devices (motherboard + 2 RAM sticks), but it often couldn't actually change the RAM colors, even though OpenRGB CLI could.
After uninstalling OpenRGB/SkyDimo and going back to Armoury Crate, Aura Sync now only controls one RAM stick.
My main question is:
Could this be an ASUS Aura/ASUS HAL/SMBus driver conflict left behind by OpenRGB/SkyDimo/PawnIO, rather than a hardware failure?
What is the correct way to completely clean/reset the RGB/SMBus software and drivers and return to a clean Armoury Crate/Aura Sync installation?
Also, is there a reliable way to test the two RAM sticks independently to determine whether the RGB controller on one stick is actually faulty?
I don't want to conclude that the RAM RGB is dead because OpenRGB previously managed to control both sticks individually.
Any advice from people who have dealt with XPG Spectrix D50 + ASUS Aura Sync + OpenRGB would be greatly appreciated.
