PC Build for Photoshop, Video Editing, Gaming

Hi everyone! Current PC is over 10 yrs old now and I'm so out of the loop on parts. I've been researching and checking compatibility on PC Part Picker, but still wanted some advice on the build. I picked Intel because that's what I'm used to but I'm open for suggestions. I'm in the US and have access to Micro Center.

Budget: I'd like to keep it below $2,000 (before tax is fine)

Uses:

  • Photoshop/Digital Illustration
  • Video Editing
  • Livestreaming
  • Some gaming (like RE Requiem)

Already have: case (Corsair 4000D), keyboard, mouse, monitor

Parts List:

  • Micro Center bundle - $649.99
    • CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 270k Plus
    • Mobo: Gigabyte Z890 Eagle WiFi 7 Plus 1851
    • RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB DDR5-6000 Kit
  • Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black - $119.95
  • Storage: Samsung 990 Pro 2TB SSD - $389.99
  • GPU: Asus Dual GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB - $564.99
  • PSU: Corsari RM750x - $114.99

Total: $1,839.91

Putting together my first MicroATX PC- questions!

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/sxzBqd

This is my WIP part list! I have a budget of $2.5-3k for the PC components, excluding all accessories and the monitor. I'm looking to run all kinds of game titles, and watch YouTube, listen to music, and stream while doing so. I am purchasing parts in the USA.

I've manually checked compatibility for all my parts and how they fit in the case. I want to make sure I'm paying for pieces that have good performance, will last a minimum of 3-5 years, and work well together.

I'm a bit nervous about assembling the build as I've never done it before; are there any complications that are foreseeable with what I've chosen to put together? I am a fan of MicroATX builds but hope I can manage all the cables in a smaller space and don't find myself running out of available ports or something.

Other questions: How many fans should I be aiming for? There are two preinstalled in the case and I am not planning on using an AIO cooler (unless I should?)

Are the I/O ports (two USB and one USB-C) on the outside of the case good enough?

Any feedback at all would be awesome! Thanks!

At what point does it stop making sense to keep upgrading and just build a new PC?

I've been upgrading the same PC for years. Started with a GPU, then added RAM, replaced the SSD, upgraded the CPU, and now I'm looking at a new motherboard. It made me wonder where everyone draws the line. At what point do you stop upgrading individual parts and decide it's time for a completely new build? I'm not talking about chasing the latest hardware, just getting the best value over time. Curious how other people approach it.

1440p on a 4060

Okay so I'm definitely not a massive pc expert. I like to think I know the basic things i would need to know just from owning a pc my whole life. So if my questions are stupid. Please understand they are real questions.

So i have a 4060, an i5 14600k, and 32g, ddr5 ram (the ram i upgraded from 16 last month)

I had a 1080p 27inch monitor. Seeing my wifes 4070 1440p laptop next to me while we were playing a game made me think "wait why does her game look SO much better than mine? she has a 4070, but this difference is just crazy." So i asked chatgpt (stupidly) what could be the difference and showed screenshots of our games. It said something like "well youre running 1080p on 27inches, so your game is going to look stretched, and shes on 1440p so shes always going to have a better image, graphics card aside."

So i spent 3 days asking chatgpt and trying to look online if my pc can handle 1440p because i read that my graphics card is a 1080p card. I was very specific too "I can run everything i need to play on the highest settings possible and i get 100ish frames on even the more demanding games, which I was very happy with (on 27inches 1080p). Everything I read said something like "well obviously youre going to get a bit of a frame drop, maybe 10%-15% which I was willing to take to get the better image.

So a few hours ago I went and bought what i think is a good acer 200hz 1440p monitor. And on ALL my games, im getting UNDER 60 fps on even HIGH graphics, forget ultra. I cannot even run 60fps on high. I loaded into tarkov (i know tarkov is a special case) and went from 100fps to 55. Then I loaded into Warzone, and on HIGH graphics I get 55 fps.

My questions are 1. Is my setup really incapable of handling the monitor? Is there something im doing wrong or something i need to change? 2. I noticed that even on like medium/"balanced" graphics it still looks pretty damn good even though i thought id be able to run higher. Is the "medium" of a 1440 better than the "ultra" of a 1080? or where does it compare?

Thank you to whoever took time to read this whole thing.

Need help figuring out a chemical or burning smell that might be coming from my 8 month old PC

This morning I noticed a smell in my room (only my room). Not sure if it was there before or after I turned on my PC. The smell smells very similar to the chemical smell those large black beetles emit and I thought maybe my cat had killed one somewhere in the room (not sure if they’re stink beetles or what).

The issue though is that the smell also smells like burning plastic. Two people in my house says it smells like burning plastic, though to me it smells a lot more like a chemical smell that’s almost exactly like the smell those large black beetles can emit.

After looking for the source of the smell I’m still not 100% sure it’s the PC because the exact source is being very elusive. The smell is strongest at the back of the PC, but inside the PC there’s only a lingering smell of it. Also, the smell is lingering on my power supply and other things next to the PC as well. So not sure if maybe my PC was just inhaling and outputting the smell.

I noticed my PC was very dusty with a lot of dust on the bottom where the PSU is. I honestly think it’s been 6 months since I properly dusted my PC.

Assuming the chemical/burning plastic smell is from my PC, what could the issue be exactly? Online it says that if it’s a chemical smell then it’s just a dust issue and I’ll need to clean my PC, but if it’s a burning plastic smell then it’s a bigger issue.

My PC was seemingly working fine all day. Not sure what component it could even be. I’m guessing PSU but my GPU also has the lingering smell.

Edit: Everything in room has been unplugged for about 3 hours and my PC is in another room. the smell is still lingering a little bit, but it’s not as strong as it was before.

Now my question,
I bought the pc 3 months ago and i still have the warranty
So first what is the faulty part? Gpu? Mobo? Cpu?
And the second question is do i need to even start with it?(rma)
Or its like some high speed ram that cannot be stable and thats it.

Surge/voltage protection for PC

So over the past 5 years of owning a pc which I use daily, I have struggled with parts always breaking. Within 5 years I have had my CPU, ssd, RAM and my motherboard all fail individually resulting in me effectively replacing/upgrading every part in it. I don't buy random cheap parts as I am happy to pay for mid to high end components.

It has gotten to the point where I am now anxious about it having another issue. I have been doing research on how to protect the computer using a better surge board that has power filtering or a UPS which are expensive.

Numerous other devices have had issues as well which were all in the same room in the house so maybe it's a power grid issue. What is the best physical solution to look at getting?

Monitor

does anyone know a good cheapish (100$ - 300$ preferably 100$ - 200$) up to date monitor? The size doesn’t really matter and as long as it is good, and I don’t need anything amazing.

preferably 1080p

GPU is AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics

it will mostly be used for gaming, I think the largest thing will be MKx/MK11

refresh rate is 60 but can go up to 75

viewsonic vx2718-2kpc-mhd with RTX 5060 TI 16gb

I'm unsure about this because I don't know much about monitors. I want to know if this one will work well since it doesn't have G-Sync, I don't want to buy it and then find out it doesn't work right. Does anyone who owns it or knows about this stuff happen to know if it will run well without G-Sync?
Monitor: ViewSonic VX2718-2KPC-MHD 27" Curved QHD 1440p VA Gaming Monitor, 180Hz, 1500R Curvature, FreeSync Premium Pro, Built-in Speakers

Stuck on post with ProArt motherboard

Losing my mind right now and any help would be much appreciated,

I have a proart z890 creator wifi, I just finished the build and when starting up the PC I see the Red LED light then the Ornage/Yellow LED light, after about 10 seconds the light goes off and no single to the monitor from the gpu, I believe this means it's a dram problem (as no white or green light is on the mother board) and I have already tried taking the ram out and back in and checking the gold connectors, it honestly getting frustrating as I've built a few PCs in my life and I've never hit a wall like this before so soon after a build

What's the difference between different 5090's?

What's the difference between the different 5090's i see online? Because i see one that's like 2700$ and another that is 4000$. I try to research but i never get a straight answer about what makes them so different, or if i do get an answer it doesn't explain it in terms i know because i'm new to pc building. So if anyone can give me an answer that i'll understand that'll be very helpful thanks

Upgrade or Pre-Built

I've spent a good chunk of the afternoon with ChatGPT, trying to make a decision today and ultimately I'm still struggling. I know, AI is the villain in the PC parts marketplace, but sometimes its helpful in aggregating a bunch of information from all over the interwebs in one space based on what you are able to provide.

So here's the dilemma, I've had my PC for 7+ years, I bought it from ibuypower, and since then the only upgrade I've made to it was increase to 16gb of ddr4. Otherwise I have an AMD Ryzen 7 1700, GIGABYTE AX370 Gaming Motherboard, and a Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 8gb. The AI states that the biggest thing holding me back right now is probably the processor and that would give me the biggest boost while suggesting a Ryzen 5 5600, however would only show a 20-40% increase to fps. All in all it recommended I replace the cpu, gpu and ram and said i'm looking at $700-800 in upgrades to my current system.

This feels like a short term solution to hardware/technology that is old. I want to get current, and I started to look at pcpartspicker to build a pc... and as I started to build out a pc with the parts I wanted, it started to look like it might be cheaper to just go with a pre-bult and upgrade off of that. ChatGPT also gave me current suggestions based on what is currently available on the market and its suggestion was to wait for sales/competition, so if I am going to go that route that's probably the option I'm going with.

I guess my question to you is what would you do... upgrade the current pc? would you still try to build your own? or would a pre-built be the better solution?

Trying to keep the pc relatively cheap $1100 give or take. Ideally want a 9600xt 16gb or 5060 ti 16gb. Which still arent exactly cheap cards.
