My mother has a long-term bed bug infestation and wants to visit me — how do I handle this without risking my home?

My mother has been dealing with a bed bug infestation for over 6 months and it still hasn’t been resolved. Part of the problem is that she’s a hoarder, so the house is extremely cluttered, and she also isn’t taking the kind of drastic/pragmatic steps that would be necessary to fully get rid of them.

Now she wants to come visit me, and I’m honestly terrified that she could bring bed bugs in her clothes or luggage and infest my home too.

At first I was planning to let her sleep in my bed since I don’t have a guest room, but once I realized the risk I changed my mind. Now I feel guilty, but also extremely anxious about it.

Has anyone dealt with something similar? What’s the most reasonable way to handle this without hurt her feelings, while also protecting my home?
