Seeking advice on career switch from mental health to OT
Any insight or advice for someone considering a career switch from clinical mental health counseling to OT? I’m a master’s student in CMHC (psych undergrad) but realizing it might not be the right path for me and I want more hands-on, active work with more applied science.
I’d likely have to start over with the OT master’s since I don’t think my credits transfer and I don’t have prereqs in anatomy/physiology. I love neuroscience, fitness, and overall health and wellness so I think I could do well in the field, but I can’t decide if this switch is worth it since I’m 24, halfway through my current master’s, lack experience/prereqs, and worry about the financial investment.
I shadowed a pediatric/family OT & behavioral health clinic and loved it, I also have plans to shadow a mental health OT in a PHP/IOP setting.
I appreciate any advice or suggestions from students, professionals, or those who have been in a similar position. Thanks!
