2016 Elantra GT Engine Seized at 140k. Any Chance Hyundai Covers This?
I’m looking for some advice or insight from anyone who’s dealt with Hyundai engine replacements or warranty goodwill claims.
I have a Hyundai Elantra GT with about 140,000 miles. I’m pretty consistent about checking my oil weekly, and I still had around 2,000 miles left before my next scheduled oil change.
Yesterday while driving, my oil light came on. I pulled over, checked the oil, and topped it off like I normally do. After that, I drove to work, but on the highway the car stalled/seized. When I added more oil afterward, the engine had a very noticeable knock.
I had it towed to Hyundai Motor Company, and they told me the engine is basically done and needs replacement. The dealership said they’re submitting everything to Hyundai to see if they’ll cover the engine, but they couldn’t tell me how likely approval is.
A few things:
140k miles
No previous major issues
Oil was checked regularly
No warning signs before this besides the oil light
Engine now has rod knock/seized
Has anyone here had Hyundai approve an engine replacement at this mileage? I’ve heard mixed things about Hyundai goodwill replacements and the engine recall/class action situations, so I’m trying to figure out what to realistically expect.
Any advice appreciated.
