Check Break Light Randomly Shows Up, but Disappears After A While On 2020 Hyundai Elantra

Hey r/StupidCarQuestions,

I have a Hyundai Elantra VIN # 5NPD84LF1LH552440.

A while ago, I started getting the check break light. When I started getting it, I filled up my break fluid with DOT 3.

That made it go away for a while, but now it showed up again yesterday. It's gone again today.

I've made sure that the parking break is disengaged.

When it does show up, the car icon highlights the back wheel of the passenger side.

Any idea of what could be wrong?

I don't have a car jack with me and the dealership is closed today.

If I can get a jack, advice on what to check would be appreciated.

Bumped that I damaged our car..

Scratched my brand new Hyundai Tucson... How bad does this look and can it be repaired?

I had a really long day at work and made a stupid mistake.

To get into the courtyard of my apartment building, I have to drive through a very narrow passage. I managed to clip a large flower pot that sits right at the exit of the passage.

The result is this long scratch on the front right fender of my brand new Tucson (photos attached).

There doesn't seem to be any dent, just the long white scratch.

Do you think this is mostly paint transfer that could be polished out, or does it look like it went through the clear coat/paint?

Would a detailer be able to fix most of it, or am I looking at repainting the whole panel?

I'd really appreciate your opinions. I'm pretty upset because the car is basically new.

Dash lights out of nowhere?

I’ve had my 2019 Hyundai Sonata Limited for about 4 months and everything has been perfect until now. Out of nowhere, I started getting these sensor light notifications on my dash, all my fluids are up to date. They all show up at once, one after the other, about a minute after I start the car, every time. Does anyone know what it could be?

Can I use local mechanics without affecting the warranty?

I’m in the US and recently bought a used 2025 Hyundai Tucson.

I bought it from a non-Hyundai dealer, so it is not CPO. It was around 18 months old and had about 22k miles when I bought it. I recently hit 24k miles, and the car is now showing that service is due. I’m guessing this is the 24k mile service.

I’m not sure how necessary it is right now, since it has only been about 2 months since I bought the car from the dealer. I also had an inspection done when I bought it.

After doing some research, I’m thinking of doing small maintenance myself and using local mechanics for things like oil changes and tire rotations. I plan to follow Hyundai’s severe usage maintenance schedule and document everything with receipts, mileage, dates, and photos when possible.

I would only use the Hyundai dealership for recalls, like the current Tucson software update, or for bigger issues that local mechanics cannot handle.

Would this be okay? Could using local mechanics for routine maintenance affect my Hyundai warranty as long as I follow the schedule and keep records?

Looking for advice: Sunroof sunshade came off track, dealership says whole sunroof repair is needed but Hyundai Canada won’t approve it

I’m looking for some advice or to see if anyone has dealt with a similar situation.

The fabric sunshade on my Hyundai Tucson panoramic sunroof came off its track. After inspecting it, the dealership and their body shop concluded that simply replacing the rail/tracks won’t address the underlying issue. They believe the entire sunroof assembly needs to be repaired or replaced to properly fix the root cause.

The problem is that Hyundai Canada has only approved replacing part of the rail/tracks, not the complete sunroof repair that the dealership and body shop are recommending.

The dealership is now telling me that they would try to perform the complete repair as a goodwill gesture because of the partial approval of the required parts from Hyundai Canada. However, the process has turned into a frustrating experience.

It was supposed to be a 2-day repair after the initial assessment, which has now stretched to almost two weeks, with very little communication or accountability.

To make matters worse:
* I’ve been paying for a rental vehicle entirely out of my own pocket. Insurance doesn’t cover the rental since it is related to a warranty repair.
* The dealership says they can’t help with rental costs because they’re already trying to do the repair as a goodwill gesture due to the partial approval.
* My vehicle is still under Hyundai’s warranty, and Hyundai Canada is refusing to approve the full repair that the dealership and body shop requested.
* Because of my financial situation, I can’t continue paying for the rental much longer and there is no ETA for the complete repair work yet.

I’m feeling stuck between Hyundai Canada, the dealership, and the body shop, with nobody taking ownership of the situation.

Has anyone experienced something similar with a panoramic sunroof or sunshade issue? Were you able to get Hyundai Canada to approve the full repair? Is there anything I should be doing next—escalating to Hyundai Canada, involving consumer protection, or something else?

I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences from others who have gone through this. Thanks in advance.

It is a broken plastic wire loom in the front chassis. What is it? Can he repair it easily himself?

Are Hyundais still easy to steal?

I saw a few years ago Hyundai Elantras , Sonatas and some Kia’s were uninsurable because of how many were getting stolen.

Is that still the case?

This car saved me from injury

2018 Elantra. 189k kms. I was not ready to let this car go, but life happens. Got smoked hard, which also put me in the guardrail. This happened Thursday (3 days ago) and I bought a 2024 Elantra today. I think I'm Hyundai for life.

Just picked up a 2026 Elantra SEL Sport in Colorado – How did I do on the price?

Hey everyone,

Just wrapped up the paperwork on a new 2026 Hyundai Elantra SEL Sport (Serenity White) out here in Colorado and wanted to share the breakdown of the deal to see how it stacks up.

I managed to negotiate a pretty hefty dealer discount up front and stack a manufacturer rebate on top of it. No crazy dealer add-ons or hidden packages were forced into the deal.

Here are the numbers:

  • MSRP: $26,055
  • Negotiated Vehicle Price: $22,500 (before taxes, fees, and rebates)
  • Dealer Discount: $3,555 off MSRP (~13.6% discount)
  • Dealer D&H / Doc Fee: $799.50
  • Taxes & State Fees: $1,933.86 (local sales tax) + $101.92 (registration/title fees)
  • Subtotal OTD (Before Rebate): $25,335.28
  • Hyundai Retail Rebate: -$2,000
  • Final Bottom-Line Price (Including Rebate): $23,335.28

Getting $3.5k off the sticker price on a brand-new 2026 model felt like a massive win, though the dealer doc fee was a bit high.

What do you guys think? Anyone else buying a 2026 model right now seeing similar discounts?

I recently had my engine replaced by Hyundai 2017 sonata

Hello, hyundai replace my old engine at 96k miles after it locked up about a month ago and i received my car back this past Tuesday everything was fine. And then on Wednesday it would not crank up so i sent it back to the dealer and they said it started up fine for them the entire day. So i grabbed my car yesterday and was driving it around and yet its having the same start up issue.

ive looked through some similar issues in the sub already and i want to iterate that my battery and starter are both new.

Dealership offered an Elite Service Plan. Is it worth it?

Just purchased a 2026 Tucson N-Line! Very excited.

As per the paper, says it has a value of $1300. The sales rep was very friendly and helpful and offered the plan to us for $200. Sounds too good to be true. Would like to know your thoughts. TIA!

I'm back in the Hyundai club!

I bought this beautiful 2020 Hyundai Venue yesterday.

My 2021 Nissan Kick's transmission was slipping after only 99k miles, and it was on its literal last leg, so I wanted something similar to the compactness of the Kicks. Came across this beauty and fell in love with her. She drives beautifully and is great on gas!

Update: Sadly, I may have to take her back. The AC stopped working and although its under warranty, I researched and found this is a known issue with this particular year and model. Instead of fixing it and fearing that it may happen again, I'm gonna trade her back in for something with a working AC! I live in Mississippi and its way too hot here to have a car without AC, especially when I have babies i have to travel with! So she was a beauty, but i have to do what is best for me and my family!

I bought new Kona 2027 and here's my thought

Edit) mine is not next gen Kona! It's current generation kona. I don't know how to edit subject.
they released kona with minor change in my country and they called it 2027 Kona. I didn't know there will be new Kona soon. sorry all!

Before this Kona, I currently own 2016 Santa Fe and 2014 Kia Optima,

Also I frequently drive 2022 Elantra and 202? Kia Seltos for business.

I hate CVT, I hate DCT, and hate AdBlue thats why I kept my old cars, however Kona now has 8 spees auto transmission instead of DCT and this made me to decide buying.

So here is my opinion

- Space: The space is huge than anything ive driven. I was like "nah its small SUV anyway" but I was wrong.

- Packages: they are hugely improved. Built-in dashcam is clear. also it records sound and extra values like blinker.

Safety Assists are way better than before. I actually don't like computer assists and it's still same tho, but I will stop saying "No, it's not very helpful as you think" to others.

- Performance: It's enough with small SUV. But 1st - 3rd gears are too short and it's very wide between 3rd and 4th. I personally don't like it but I understand why they decided like this. Also changing speed is slow and not smooth (yet)

- Paddle shifter: the one thing I hated when driving mordern Hyundai/Kia. They are just automatically back to Drive if you keep the speed. HOWEVER, Now it maintains manual transmission if you are in sport mode. I think it's huge QoL change. but they removed start with 2nd gear. you can't change gear if your car is under 5mph.

- Suspension: Very soft. It's comfort with common driving but I'm wonder how it feels on high speed. Im thinking of changing the suspension if I feel unstable later.

- Steering wheel: tiny, thin and very heavy which means you have to use more power, especially when you do 90 degrees left/right turn with 20mph. Any other I said above are both likes and hates, however steering wheel is what i hate only. Also Airbag area is convex which makes you harder to honk.

- Buttons: They are all Physical buttons. perfect! good job!

- Lights: rear blinker is positioned at bottom side. You better blink early. others are okay tho.

- Display: hard to see while driving. I think Kona has newer display than Seltos/Elantra however, I feel like both are easier to read than Kona.

So my personal rate is 9/10 !

Comfort, Good Economy, Huge Space, Enough Power, Upgraded System. they all great.

Hyundai Dealer Accused Me of Illegal Street Racing to Deny Warranty – 2024 Sonata N Line

I’m looking for some honest advice because I’m honestly shocked by what happened at my local Hyundai dealership.
I own a 2024 Hyundai Sonata N Line that I bought brand new from the dealership with about 100 miles on it. The car is now about two years old and has only 20,000 miles.
I barely drive it. I live in Tampa, Florida, and almost all of those miles are local driving. I’ve never tracked the car, never raced it, never modified it, and the only longer trip I’ve taken was a single drive to Miami.
Recently, the car developed a noticeable vibration once it reaches around 50 mph and above.
I took it to my local Hyundai dealership expecting them to diagnose the issue under warranty.
Instead, the service manager told me that I must have been participating in illegal street racing, claimed that two wheels are bent, and said I need to replace:
● Two wheels
● All four tires
● The brakes
The estimate was several thousand dollars, and they refused to cover anything under warranty.
What really bothers me isn’t just the cost—it’s the accusation. They essentially accused me of abusing my car without providing any evidence. I’ve never raced this vehicle or driven it aggressively.
My questions are:
● Is it realistic for a two-year-old Sonata with only 20,000 miles to have this kind of damage under normal driving?
● Can a dealership simply accuse a customer of illegal racing to deny warranty coverage?
● Should I ask another Hyundai dealer for a second opinion?
● Should I escalate this directly to Hyundai Corporate?
● Has anyone experienced something similar with Hyundai warranty claims?
I’m just trying to understand whether this is normal or if I’m being treated unfairly.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
