2017 Tucson 1.6T AWD making metallic rattle around 2,000 RPM — mechanic says replace the whole engine?

Hey everyone,

I recently bought a 2017 Hyundai Tucson 1.6T AWD with 125k miles. During the test drive, everything seemed fine and the car drove normally. It also passed NYS inspection.

After I bought it, I had the engine oil changed, and I started noticing a metallic rattling sound coming from the top area of the engine bay, most noticeable around 2,000 RPM.
Other than the noise, the car seems to be running fine:

• No noticeable loss of power
• No rough running
• No overheating
• No warning lights that I’ve noticed
• Drives normally otherwise
• Passed NYS inspection

I took it to my mechanic, they just drove around and heard the sound and they’re telling me that I should replace the entire engine, which obviously is a huge expense that I really can’t afford right now.

I’ll add a video of the noise to help demonstrate what I’m hearing.

I checked around the engine myself, and none of the belt tensioners or bearings seem loose, and the timing belt doesn’t appear to be loose either. The sound seems like it’s coming from the left side of the engine, but I can’t figure out exactly where it’s coming from.

Before I assume the engine is completely done, I wanted to ask other Tucson owners:
Has anyone experienced a similar metallic rattle around 1,500–2,000 RPM on the 1.6T? Was it something relatively simple like a timing-chain/tensioner issue, turbo/wastegate, VVT component, or another part that could be replaced instead of the entire engine?

I’m really hoping to hear from someone who actually had this problem and was able to fix it without replacing the whole engine.

If you’ve dealt with this, what was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost?

Thanks!

For women: what actually flips that switch from “I see a future with you” to “I’m not ready for a relationship”?

Guy here trying to make sense of something that’s really messing with my head.

More than once I’ve been in situations where a woman says stuff like “I really want this to work,” “I see a future with you,” talks about long‑term things, shares a lot of personal stuff… and then later backs out with “I’m not ready for a relationship,” “I need to work on myself,” “I can’t do commitment right now.”
I’m not trying to call anyone a liar. I believe those feelings are real in the moment. What I don’t understand is what happens between that moment and the one where the brakes slam on.

So I’m asking women who’ve actually lived this:

• When you say “I see a future with you” or “I want this to work,” what does that mean to you in that moment? Is it more “this feels good right now” or “I’m actually willing to build something long‑term”?

• What usually flips the switch to “I’m not ready for a relationship” or “I need to work on myself”? Is it fear, pressure, something the guy did, something you realized about yourself, or just losing feelings?

• How often is it “I’m not ready for a relationship with anyone” vs “I’m not ready for a relationship with this specific person even though I like him”?

• Do you know you’re not ready deep down even while you’re saying the hopeful stuff, or does it hit you later when things get more real?

I’m not looking for sugar‑coating or “she just wasn’t that into you.” I’m genuinely trying to understand the internal side of this so I don’t drive myself crazy replaying every conversation and questioning whether any of it was real.

If you’ve been the woman who said “I see a future” and then walked away: what was actually going on inside you?

What am I wrong here?

I (early 20s) started talking to this girl from Hinge about two months ago. For context, I’m pretty traditional, I don’t do casual relationships or physical intimacy unless I see real long-term potential. We’re both from Southeast Asian Muslim backgrounds where dating can be strict, though my family is relatively lenient.
From the very beginning, I made my intentions clear: I’m only interested in something serious and intentional. At one point early on, I asked her to take me off Hinge, and she told me I should just delete it — so I did. I also asked if she was talking to other guys, and she said she wasn’t (or at least not “actively”). I told her I wouldn’t want to be part of a roster and would prefer exclusivity while we’re trying to build something. She agreed and actually seemed even more excited than me — she said she dates to marry.
Because of finals and then a family trip she went on, we didn’t meet in person for about a month. But during that time, we were constantly texting. It wasn’t one-sided — she was very engaged. She’d send me pictures throughout her day, update me on everything, say she missed me, and we’d flirt a lot. We’d FaceTime and call too.
At some point, she opened up about her past and family issues. It was pretty vulnerable stuff, and I reassured her it didn’t change how I felt about her. She said she was telling me because she saw a potential future with me, which meant a lot to me.
By then, I was definitely emotionally invested — but it didn’t feel one-sided at all. She was pulling me in just as much.
We finally had our first date about a month in. I drove about 60 miles (crossed state lines) to see her. I’m usually a pretty guarded and awkward person — I literally rehearse conversations in my head — but with her, everything felt natural. The date honestly went better than I could’ve imagined.
We were holding hands the whole time, she leaned on my shoulder, it felt really comfortable and genuine. She went shopping at one of her favorite stores, and I bought her the things she liked — not because I expected anything, but because I wanted to.
At the end of the night, we were sitting in her car just hugging for a long time because neither of us wanted to leave. In that moment, I asked if I could kiss her. She pulled back slightly and said she wasn’t ready yet. I immediately said that was completely okay and apologized if it made her uncomfortable. She even asked if I was upset, and I reassured her I wasn’t at all.
We kept hugging, and when I got out to go to my car, she got out too and hugged me again for a few minutes. I kissed the top of her head, and we finally left.
About 10–15 minutes later, she texted me saying she missed me. Everything felt fine.
But then, while I was driving home, she suddenly started sending messages saying she didn’t understand my intentions anymore and even asked if I expected her to pay me back for the date and the clothes. That honestly caught me off guard.
I reassured her calmly — I told her I asked before trying to kiss her, didn’t go through with it, and that nothing about my intentions had changed. I told her I wasn’t in a rush, I cared about her genuinely, and I didn’t expect anything in return. I also made it clear I absolutely didn’t want her to pay me back.
After that, things seemed to go back to normal. The same affectionate texting, pictures, everything.
Then things took a turn. Her sister found out about us by going through her messages and told her mom. She basically got in trouble at home, and after that, everything shifted.
I tried to be understanding. I told her it was okay if we couldn’t see each other for a while, that I wasn’t in a rush, and we could take things at her pace.
But she started saying things like:
“You don’t deserve this”
“You deserve better”
“I can’t give you what you deserve”
“I need to work on myself”
“You’re too good to be true”
At the same time, she would still say she wanted to make it work.
It turned into this push-and-pull dynamic. Whenever I’d gently bring something up, things would temporarily feel normal again — then she’d go distant.
Even texts that used to make her excited started making her withdraw.
She said she was going through a really rough time with her mom, which I tried to respect and be patient about. I genuinely believed that if we both wanted this, we could work through it.
We had talked about celebrating my birthday together — she insisted on it — so I brought it up later and she said yes again. We were even making plans.
Then suddenly, something shifted again. She told me she wasn’t ready for a commitment and wasn’t in the headspace to continue or even wait and try to make it work.
That’s where I got really confused.
Why say all those things, build emotional intimacy, and act like you see a future… if you weren’t ready?
I don’t date around. I don’t open up easily. My friends would tell you I’m very guarded. But with her, I felt safe. I genuinely cared about her — I was even doing things like making prayers and donations for her because I wanted her life to get easier.
I wasn’t asking for anything except consistency and exclusivity while we figured things out.
When she said we could “just be friends,” that honestly crushed me. I told her I couldn’t do that because I wanted more, but I was still willing to be patient.
I even asked if we could meet again in 6 months, same place, same time, and see where we’re at.
She never replied.
After about 8 hours of no response, I told her I understood and that I couldn’t stay in this situation. I said I wished things had stayed as clear as they were in the beginning.
I blocked her number. Part of me thought she might reach out another way (she once joked she’d call me from her hospital if I ever blocked her), but before I could even check, she had already blocked me on Instagram.
It’s been over two weeks now, and I’m still pretty affected. I don’t usually get this invested.
Out of curiosity (and maybe weakness), I checked Hinge again — and she’s back on there, using new pictures… some of which she had originally sent to me. Still saying she wants a long-term relationship.
She told me I was “perfect” but she just wasn’t ready.
I’m trying to understand — what did I actually do wrong here?
Because when I talk to someone, I give them my full attention. I don’t keep options on the side. To me, that’s just basic respect.
I feel really confused and honestly kind of broken by this whole thing.

Upper junior accounting student seeking internship help feeling stuck without accounting experience

Hi everyone, I’m currently an upper junior accounting student at Queens College with a 4.0 GPA, and I’ve been working about 30 hours a week at a bank while in school. After a year there, I was promoted into a personal banker role, so I’ve built strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills while balancing a demanding schedule.
I’ve been applying aggressively for summer 2026 accounting internships, and I’ve made it to final rounds, including interviews with team leads and even a CFO, but I keep getting rejected because I “don’t have enough accounting-related experience.” That’s the part I’m really struggling with, because it feels like a feedback loop: I need experience to get the internship, but I need the internship to get the experience.
At this point, I don’t have anything lined up for summer 2026, and I’m honestly open to anything that would help me build accounting experience, whether that’s an internship, part-time role, fall opportunity, referral, or even advice on where to look next. I’m hardworking, professional, and very willing to learn. If anyone has leads or would be open to connecting, I’d really appreciate it. I’d be happy to share my resume as well. Thank you.

First date ideas in Princeton? Lunch + dessert + maybe a fun activity

Hey everyone, I’m planning a first date in Princeton and could use some recommendations.
I’m going to be driving in from Queens, NYC, and we’re doing Princeton because she specifically wanted Princeton, so I’m trying to plan it out well and make it smooth. I currently have Ayat in mind for lunch since it seems like a nicer halal option, so that felt like a good pick. Budget matters a little, but it’s not my biggest concern. My only hesitation is that I’ve never been there before, and I don’t want the date to feel like we just eat and then awkwardly walk around figuring out what to do next.
She mentioned we could also just do something more casual like Mamoun’s or Tacoria and stay around Nassau Street, but I’m hoping to make it feel a little more special since it’s our first date and I really like her. I also definitely want to stop by Bent Spoon for ice cream after.
Does anyone have recommendations for:
• A good first date lunch spot in Princeton
• A fun but low-pressure activity nearby
• A nice area to walk or sit and talk after
• Anything that works well if she has a curfew and we need to keep it fairly simple
• Parking or timing advice, especially since I’m coming from Queens
Would love ideas that feel thoughtful and also Wish me luck 🤞:”D

Hey everyone,

I applied for a summer internship at StoneX about a month ago and went through the full process — recruiter screen first, then a final round with the CFO and the team I’d be working with.

The final interview was on April 6, and I felt like it went pretty well overall. Good conversation, no obvious red flags, and it felt like a solid fit.

It’s now May 3, so about 4 weeks later, and I haven’t heard anything. I followed up with the recruiter last Thursday but haven’t gotten a response yet.

I know hiring can be slow, especially for finance roles, but since this is a summer internship starting in June, I’m starting to get a bit concerned about the timeline.

Has anyone here gone through the process at StoneX or similar firms?

  • How long did it take to hear back after final rounds?
  • Is ~4 weeks + no response after a follow-up usually a bad sign, or still within normal range?

Would really appreciate any insight.
