Hello everyone. My 83-year-old father is a candidate for a cochlear implant. He is eager to do it, which is great. But I am concerned about the success versus failure rate of this procedure. I rhink that post-op he will put in the work. But it seems like a steep learning curve to retrain your brain to translate beeps and blips into noise that you can understand as speech. He is generally coherent and his brain still works well, but definitely slower than before, and he's begun forgetting how to use technology. Has anyone had an elderly parent go through this procedure and come out the other side successfully hearing speech better? Has someone's parent put in the work and still not found success? I'd like to hear your stories.
