Please help, second bin e graft possible failure
Bone graft infections
Hi I’m needing suggestions/ recommendations on what to do.
My dental journey I’ve been dealing with since 2018. Started out when I was 23, I’m 31 now and every procedure I have typically goes wrong. I’m at a loss and I’m exhausted.
Dental story -
Got braces on back in 2018 told it would be an easy two year plan to bring down two upper impacted adult teeth and to fix my bite. Discovered the roots on those adult teeth when they brought them down had died. So they pulled them. And they actually removed my braces to give my mouth a break when really I think it’s because the orthodontist messed up and that was her way of being done with my treatment. Found another orthodontist so paid for second round of braces. Third tooth died due to another reason. So, i had three upper teeth removed due to dying.
Fast forward to now, i had my first bone graft done last November, it became infected a day after two week follow up where i was told it looked amazing and he even removed the stitches in that apt that he typically removes at the month mark, because it was healing amazingly. Next day, pus and graft material drainage and pain and swelling . Got it all removed and waited three months for healing and try second bone graft. Well, I’m at a month with second bone graft and it’s now infected again!!!
I noticed irritation when I used the antibacterial mouth rinse with a pointed dental brush around the gum line for plaque removal and gentle cleaning at week 2. I stopped immediately and returned to just salt water rinse and have only been doing that since. I have noticed some off and on pain and some discomfort going on but thought maybe it’s just healing. Last night woke up with material in my mouth and slowly graft and pus has been coming out in the area where it did before the first bone graft. I’m assuming an infection maybe was forming this entire time and finally worked its way out.
I’m honestly at a loss. I don’t know what to do and I’m getting more and more discouraged. I’m so young I don’t want to end up toothless in the front for the rest of my life.
I have my month follow up on Monday with my surgeon I’ll be going over questions and voice my concerns but I really would like to hear from others who experienced this. any advice or suggestions on what I should try doing. Someone suggested maybe the implant that goes into your cheekbone rather doing traditional bone graft.
Please help!!! I just want to smile again with confidence and not be self conscious having to take out my retainer with the fake teeth inside it to eat and drink. I want a nice smile again I miss it since 2018! Can’t do this anymore
