27F Front tooth (#8) implant crown advice - currently waiting for my 5th attempt at a crown due to lab & dentist errors on top of normal trouble shade matching. Have been without a front tooth for 14 months now. Are they really doing everything they should to help me get the best result?

TL;DR - 1st pic is now, after 3 weeks in a custom tissue former to fix the gum contour. 2nd pic is the preceding attempt at a crown where the gum contour was off (+ the color wasn't great, especially at the top).

had #8 extracted in March 2025 and implant placed in July 2025, did not receive a crown until March 2026 due to lab and dentist errors + delays. Have been in an Essix retainer this whole time. I was supposed to get another temporary crown that would help shape the tissue but apparently the lab made it the complete opposite way (the top was essentially convex) so the dentist told me I had to do a custom tissue former + go back to the Essix again.

Went for a custom shade match at the lab after waiting the 3 weeks in the tissue former, but the lab didn't use special lighting. She truly just looked at the shades next to my teeth and took iPhone pics, so I am left wondering how that is supposed to yield a better result than the 4 previous attempts based on the pictures the dentist sent. Is this normal?

I am basically trying to figure out if I should be doing something else at this point.

- Does it seem like this is being handled appropriately?

- Should I go off on my own and find a cosmetic dentist to consult with? Would they even be able to do a better job or is this a lab issue?

I previously thought that this dentist would've referred me elsewhere if they didn't think they could get me a good result but maybe that isn't the case? They are absolutely losing money on this case since we have had to redo it so many times plus they didn't charge me for the abutment due to all of the delays and mistakes, so it doesn't feel like a money thing.

Anyone Here Regret Getting Dental Implants — Or Was It Worth It?

I’ve been researching dental implants recently and noticed that many people have very different experiences with them.

Some say implants completely changed their confidence and quality of life, while others mention concerns like:
• Healing time
• Bone grafting
• Cost of treatment
• Pain during recovery
• Implant failure risks

For those who already have dental implants:

✔ Was the procedure easier or harder than expected?
✔ How long did recovery take for you?
✔ Do implants feel natural now?
✔ Would you recommend them to others?

I think honest patient experiences can really help people who are considering implants for the first time.

I feel like I’ve ruined my life, and I’m terrified of my final prosthesis tomorrow.

I don’t really know how to start this, but I’m at my breaking point. I’m 30 years old, living in France, and I feel like I’ve completely ruined my life.
Six months ago, I had an All-on-4 procedure done abroad—but only for my upper jaw. Before this, I spent years and thousands of euros trying to save my natural teeth, keeping up with perfect hygiene, doing everything I was told. Yet, despite all the money and effort, my teeth just kept crumbling away until only 6 were left. I was in constant pain and agony. I felt like I had absolutely no other choice but to find a more affordable option abroad. I thought I was fixing my life, but now, I feel like I’ve made the biggest mistake of my existence.
Tomorrow, I’m receiving my final zirconia prosthesis for the top. Everyone tells me I should be happy and relieved, but I’m not. I’m terrified.
I’m already panicking thinking about how it’s going to feel. I’m scared that I’ll spend every second of the day obsessively analyzing it with my tongue, noticing every tiny imperfection, and never being able to feel "normal" again. My tongue is constantly scanning my mouth, and I feel like a stranger in my own body—it's like I have a foreign object that my brain refuses to accept. I am physically and mentally exhausted from this constant hyper-fixation.
On top of that, I’m paralyzed by the fear of what happens next. I’m terrified that if I run into any problems, no dentist here in France will ever agree to see me or fix the work done abroad. I feel like I’ve burned all my bridges. I have this constant, crushing fear that I’ll be judged, humiliated, or even told that I’ve destroyed my mouth. I feel like I’m hiding a dark secret that every professional I meet will see and despise.
I’m at my breaking point. I have dark thoughts that won't go away, and I feel completely trapped in my own skin. I’m just so tired of being "strong" and pretending that I’m okay when I’m actually living in constant anxiety. It feels like I’ve lost my youth and my future in one surgery.
Has anyone else ever felt this level of regret and despair at 30? Does this feeling of having a "foreign object" ever truly go away? And how do you deal with the fear of being abandoned by the medical system? I feel so incredibly alone in this, and any support or perspective would mean the world to me. Thank you for listening.

Are my implants failing?

This new x-ray was taken 5 months after surgery and I honestly think there has been no bone integration at all compared to scan taken 2 weeks after surgery…I can even see bone loss in a couple of spots and movement of front upper right implant - circled in 1st x-ray) on this second scan since procedure. Am I right??

Please help, second bin e graft possible failure

Bone graft infections

Hi I’m needing suggestions/ recommendations on what to do.
My dental journey I’ve been dealing with since 2018. Started out when I was 23, I’m 31 now and every procedure I have typically goes wrong. I’m at a loss and I’m exhausted.

Dental story -
Got braces on back in 2018 told it would be an easy two year plan to bring down two upper impacted adult teeth and to fix my bite. Discovered the roots on those adult teeth when they brought them down had died. So they pulled them. And they actually removed my braces to give my mouth a break when really I think it’s because the orthodontist messed up and that was her way of being done with my treatment. Found another orthodontist so paid for second round of braces. Third tooth died due to another reason. So, i had three upper teeth removed due to dying.
Fast forward to now, i had my first bone graft done last November, it became infected a day after two week follow up where i was told it looked amazing and he even removed the stitches in that apt that he typically removes at the month mark, because it was healing amazingly. Next day, pus and graft material drainage and pain and swelling . Got it all removed and waited three months for healing and try second bone graft. Well, I’m at a month with second bone graft and it’s now infected again!!!
I noticed irritation when I used the antibacterial mouth rinse with a pointed dental brush around the gum line for plaque removal and gentle cleaning at week 2. I stopped immediately and returned to just salt water rinse and have only been doing that since. I have noticed some off and on pain and some discomfort going on but thought maybe it’s just healing. Last night woke up with material in my mouth and slowly graft and pus has been coming out in the area where it did before the first bone graft. I’m assuming an infection maybe was forming this entire time and finally worked its way out.

I’m honestly at a loss. I don’t know what to do and I’m getting more and more discouraged. I’m so young I don’t want to end up toothless in the front for the rest of my life.
I have my month follow up on Monday with my surgeon I’ll be going over questions and voice my concerns but I really would like to hear from others who experienced this. any advice or suggestions on what I should try doing. Someone suggested maybe the implant that goes into your cheekbone rather doing traditional bone graft.
Please help!!! I just want to smile again with confidence and not be self conscious having to take out my retainer with the fake teeth inside it to eat and drink. I want a nice smile again I miss it since 2018! Can’t do this anymore

Tell me I am not losing my mind!!

This is my teeth for context. I got an implant 6 months ago and the tooth that I am holding on my natural teeth is the shade that I selected for my teeth, the short white one is what I received. I am right now asking them to correct this error, they’re asking me to pay for it again. I said no! Because this was their mistakes. They’re saying it’s been 6months. Keep in mind right after they installed it, I told them the color was off. The doctor said after teeth cleaning and whitening, they should match, this is my teeth precessionally cleaned yesterday. ,
Obviously , it’s not helping. They’re using the timeframe to get me to pay. I said absolutely not!!!

Crown is darker than my natural teeth or am I overreacting?

I recently left my dentist appointment with the final implant crown placed, but after getting home and looking at it in different lighting, I noticed the crown seems slightly darker/warmer than my natural teeth.

I sent the clinic a message with a photo, and they replied the next day saying we would give attention to it at my next appointment.
I still need to go back anyway because I have other molar implants that need adjustments, so I’ll bring up the crown color again then. But I’m honestly anxious they may try to convince me to keep it as it is.

I know it’s not a massive difference and maybe I’m overthinking it, but I feel like the whole point of an implant crown is for it to blend naturally with your real teeth. Especially because it’s visible to me every time I look in the mirror.

For those who’ve had implant crowns:
Does this shade difference look noticeable to you?

Is it reasonable to ask for a closer color match?

Am I being too perfectionistic here?

I genuinely don’t want to be difficult,  I just want it to look as natural as possible.

Replacing dental implant under just local anesthesia?

Has anyone experienced this and how did it go? Under just gas and local anesthesia.

I have had a very long dental implant journey, almost a year. Had 9 implants placed and 4 failed- replaced 3 and they all integrated but one that was previously integrated has failed. Planning on Getting a second opinion as to why this one has failed.

The dentist said he can do it under local anesthesia. I requested Valium as I have severe anxiety and the assistant said they will use gas as well.

I’m worried I won’t be able to sit for this procedure. My sister says most people will fall asleep. I just don’t think I can handle hearing them drill into my jaw to replace this implant.

Replacing failed dental implant

Anyone have to replace a failed dental implant? Tooth number 19 eight year-old implant failed. Failure likely related to poor fit of overlying crown no gum, disease or bone loss. Had new bone graft in October and larger screw placed March. About to have it torqued in a few weeks and worried that it’s not going to work. Anyone had similar experience?

Small bump on gum above bone graft/implant site, is this concerning?

I got my tooth extracted, bone graft and implant placed about 3 months ago and its been healing good. I noticed a little white bump above the site on my gum. Its tiny and doesn't hurt when I touch it but it does feel like a bump.

Is this concerning? Im about to leave to do fieldwork for 3 weeks and so I cant go to my dentist right away... I hope this is okay?

Bone loss around implants

In 2020, I had dental implants placed for teeth 13 and 14 along with a sinus lift. Unfortunately, they experienced bone loss and failed in 2023. In 2024, a new set of implants was placed with another sinus lift after bone grafting. However, immediately after the new set was placed, bone loss started again. The doctor only restored them with provisional crowns, which I have had for 1.5 years at this point.

I understand that they don't look good, and I probably won't have them permanently restored in the future, as the bone loss is continuing at a rate of about two implant threads per year. The doctor performed a debridement six months ago, but it hasn't really helped stop the bone loss. I don't have an infection, and my gums are not red or inflamed. A separate periodontist confirmed this.

Is it possible that the bone loss will stop? How soon should I have them removed to prevent even more bone loss?

Is it normal for an implant to ache (a little bit) a month later?

I had a 15 year implant fail due to infection. It was removed, the bone was given time to regenerate, the socket was implanted and was given time to heal. I had no pain whatsoever at this point. They attached the fake tooth and i was sent home. A day later I was eating something normal and I noticed the fake tooth was loose. I went back to the dentist and he tightened it. When he tightened it he told me he was over tightening it. Now a month later, it aches a little bit. On a scale of 1-10, I would give it a 1.5-2.0. it's also not all the time. With my last implant that I had for 15 years, I had no pain whatsoever (until it got infected). I do have receding gums as well if that's relevent.

Is this normal?

Is this all in my head because he told me he was over tightening it?

TLDR New implant aches a little bit. Old implant did not. Normal?

Implants

I have a pretty complex Invisalign case and I’m trying to hear other people’s experiences with implants/bone grafts during treatment.
I’m missing 3 bottom molars because after my baby teeth fell out, the adult teeth there just never grew in, Over time, my top teeth shifted downward into those empty spaces, so now my orthodontist is using Invisalign to move the upper teeth back up to make room for implants.
I’m currently on tray 30/41 before refinements and really hoping to get the implant process started as soon as possible.
Part of why I’m stressing about it is because I recently met someone and it’s made me super insecure about my back teeth and them showing when I laugh or smile from certain angles. I know most people probably don’t notice it as much as I do, but it’s definitely affected my confidence lately.
For anyone who had a similar case:
When were you able to get your bone graft done?
Did you have to fully finish Invisalign first?
How long after bone grafting did you get implants placed?
Did your orthodontist/oral surgeon wait until refinements were done too?
