In my favorite Vonnegut novel, prettymuch the whole country has been automated, leaving a class of a handful of educated administrators and a class of manual laborers - both only have to do things people haven't yet figured out how to automate.

The educated enjoy a fulfilling life of challenge and reward, the latter become frustrated at a lack of meaning and some seek a revolution to destroy the technology that lets them work only a few hours a week.

Instead of exploring the overt oppression by a ruling bourgeoisie, Vonnegut asks what happens to people when they cannot labour, when one's living is completely disconnected from purpose.

It's not just the topic that I love, its HILARIOUS. I think all Vonnegut novels should be made into Cohen Brothers films. I highly recommend.
