Granny Addenbrooke Test 67
We’re in a bit of a state.
My Granny is 76, the most important person in the world to me. Our other family have all passed away so it’s just the two of us. I recently moved to London for work but get up to Glasgow to see her every couple of weeks. She lives alone and is very independent; goes own shopping, drives, sees folk, walks and looks after the dog.
She has been slowing down and sometimes repeats herself, asking the same question again every now and then. I do believe that there is some measure of cognitive decline there.
But we went to the memory clinic yday and she scored 67 on a test that frankly I think it would be difficult to pass. She has little education and came from poverty in Glasgow, isn’t a big reader but loves her television etc.
The clinician’s reaction to the test is as though there has been severe decline and she’s in the throes of dementia - it’s obviously given us both a fright.
Are these tests accurate and reliable and what should I do now? She will be sent for a brain scan but I am told it is unlikely it will bring anything up.
Please help.
