100lb Parrott shell fragment fired by the USS Galena at Malvern Hill

Fresh out the mail. This 15 pound hunk of shell was fired at Holmes division at Malvern hill. Holmes division came under fire from the Galena and Aroostook, but only the Galena had Parrott rifles aboard

Civil War Snake Bites

Odd question that I’ve been sitting on for a while, but how often were soldiers bit by snakes? I’ve heard many accounts of the relentless mosquitos, ticks, and other bugs that live in Virginia swamps, but I have never heard of soldiers getting bit by snakes before. I’m sure it had to happen with how much both armies moved through swampy areas, does anyone have any accounts of it happening?

Lead and Wood

Earlier this week I received 2 bullets lodged in the same pieces of wood in which they came to rest during the battle of Bentonville. Today I returned them to the places in which they may have been fired from.

Also unfortunately found out that the witness tree in front of the Harper house came down recently.

The last known child of a civil war veteran passed away this past Sunday

William “Bill” Poole of Bolivar Missouri passed away Sunday at the age of 101. His father served in the 6th WV for the Union army, and was 80 years old when Bill was born in 1925. Really shows how history isn’t really that far away.

Help Deciphering Map Markings

Final Edit (I think): I found another one of these markers at the location of another known camp site, so I’m pretty certain that’s what these are marking. Appreciate the responses

Was looking at a local map produced for the confederate military during the war. I noticed there were a few flag markings such as the two in my pic and I’m wondering what they could represent? I’m thinking it may be camp sites but with no legend I wasn’t sure.

Edit: the thought ran through my mind as well as another commenters that it could be a signal station, but given the context of this map I don’t think that’s what it is. This is part of a very large area of NC that was surveyed for military purposes, but didn’t have any fighting or anything

Why is AccuWeather spreading misinformation? Are they stupid?

Do not listen to the lizard overlords, continue to park under overpasses and block traffic.

THIS MEGASLABBER CAME WITHIN 100 MILES OF MY HOUSE. I DONT KNOW HOW I SURVIVED!

Yes I was hiding under an overpass, I think that’s the only reason I made it through
