I went for some pre-op blood tests today. The woman was asking if I ever had a transfusion before, and then some related questions. I asked why all these questions. She said they need to know my exact blood type to have extra blood on hand for my upcoming procedure (SAVER + Maze one week from today).

That was a jolt that hit hard. I never thought about possibly needing a transfusion! This is all getting real and coming up fast.

Just wondering if the slow boat full of Batch 3 of BYOKs has made it to the warehouse yet?

I'm a 70M with severe aortic stenosis. As part of all the testing to determine SAVR vs TAVR, it indicated that I have a AV calcium score of 4,251.

Any TAVR patients have scores in that range? SAVR people get turned down due to high scores?

From what I have read, going the TAVR route might not be a good idea. The calcified leaflets can make for a bad fit for the new valve when as it doesn't expand completely; the calcified leaflets can put more pressure on the AV node and increase the chance for needing a pacemaker; and a slightly increased chance of a stroke due the calcified bits breaking off and moving through the bloodstream.

I meet with the cardiothoracic surgeon in about 5-days, and we'll see what he says on this.
