Phenomenal Portability… Itty Bitty Typing Space

In my last post I boasted the smallest possible form factor, but this has it beat - though it’s not a perfect solution for reasons that will be obvious.

My Click keyboard arrived today and I’m pleased to say it fits the BYOK like a glove. Seriously, it’s like they were designed for one another. The mag lock holds the BYOK securely, and there’s loads of room to type without it being ‘too’ heavy for prolonged use (though it’s not feather-light either).

The keyboard feels really satisfying to type on, featuring the trademark ‘click’. The keys (buttons?) are tiny though, and it takes a little getting used to, but the layers are intuitive and easy to use, and I was pleasantly surprised by how intuitive it all felt.

The Click keyboard is very unlikely to become anyone’s primary way of using the BYOK, but it’s portability and accessibility makes it a fantastic supplement to your primary board, allowing use in places where a normal keyboard would not fit. Standing at a bus stop, sitting on a bus, walking around town or lying on the beach, the Click keyboard has you covered. Now you have no excuse not to be writing (sorry!).

Too Freaking Hot Today

Took the kid out to the coffee shop for a spinach turnover and strawberry coconut refresher (them) and coffee frappe (me). Got a little bit of work done on the book while we were there, but then we had to go home 'cause the RealFeel is 111 degrees right now.

It's Finally Here! Questions

So, I just got my BYOK in the mail and was curious about something. Everything I've seen indicates that they should have a warm amber front light, but mine seems to have a cool white front light? Am I missing something?

Right away, I will say, this thing is amazingly fast. Way faster than any e-ink solution I've tried and better than my Neo, even though it's also fast.

Thanks.

edit: found the serial number under sync :)

Converting Markdown to rich text?

Sorry if I'm repeating a question from elsewhere, but I'm having issues with formatting.

If I use Markdown in a BYOK file (ie; **bold**, *italic**, etc) is there any way to convert that to rich text when accessing files in Studio? I understand that formatting is limited on the device for a reason but it'd be good to know if there's a way to add formatting more easily further down the line.

Getting much enjoyment using these devices - MicroJournal Rev4 and BYOK

The Rev.4 is easy to set up and get started. Simple, thoughtful interface. I had reservations about the tiny screen, but it's perfect for what I use it for: creating first drafts of poems and other dribble. U.K.Lee was super patient and helpful as I tried to decide on color combos.

The uber nerd in me wants to get it to work with BYOK. Couldn't make it happen, even after trying a number of cables and combinations of USB A->C and C->C. So for now, my BYOK is getting to know a life time of keyboards, including the Keyboardio Atreus (second pic)

I'm very disappointed...

I ordered one BYOK with the Studio Bundle with accessories on December 24th, 2025.

Finally, I received it on June 9th, 2026.

The very next day, June 10th, I informed them that the accessories weren't included in the parcel I received.

They replied two days later, June 12th, that they'll run this with their fulfillment partner.

On June 24th, I send them a reminder. Still no response.

This is not the way a serious company should work!

I regret that I've trusted you!

Setting up a reading journal on my porch in a summer storm.

A new project I'm going to be creating with the BYOK, a reading journal that I can summarize the book I'm reading and give some general thoughts on with a simple rating. I'm going to read the original Goosebumps books as I reread a Song of Ice and Fire and maybe others (ADHD Brain) I also enjoy writing with pen and paper so the BYOK feels "analog" enough to be a great partner to incorporate into that setup. The planner is a moterm personal wide with old paper stock I find at the thrift store and I use a mix of rollerball ink pens and a few fountain pens.

No tray table...no problem!

Used the small stand included with the device to hook it into the seat pocket. The magnet is solid! It fell ones when I pulled my drink out of the pocket without bracing, but held out during landing. Now to wait on yet another delayed connection ...

First real test of using the BYOK in the wild

I'm at a writing conference this week and I brought the BYOK because I'm mainly using the week as a personal writing retreat. I've been trying to get back to writing regularly for the past few years, but... life, distractions... many of you know the drill.

So today was the first full day of the conference, and I've already churned out a whole new essay for my upcoming humor book. I had a few I'd written a long time ago, so writing new essays feels fabulous. I'd tried using this laptop earlier in the day, but, well, distractions... email...

I closed the laptop and pulled out the BYOK, and within a half hour or so I had a new 1,000-word essay. Just a rough draft, but I know I can fix rough drafts. It's WRITING them that had been stalling over and over again. Very happy with this first use outside the house. I'm using a Samsers folding keyboard (not backlit but that's okay).

3d Printed Clamshell or Lap Solution

Hey there!

I should be receiving my BYOK soon and I’m wondering if anyone has done a DIY 3d print of a clamshell setup or a good setup for typing in the lap on the couch? I’ve seen the posts about the mounts from Amazon and the lap desk with mount solutions, but I would love to find a clamshell solution that can create a portable writer deck if possible.

Can’t wait to get it and start writing.
