Checking to see if I just purchased a fake Esee

Just recently purchased this from eBay and the lanyard part on the butt of the knife doesn’t match any I can find online. It’s supposed to be a 3d Miata handle but that end doesn’t look correct. This is my first time buying an expensive knife from eBay! Did I just purchase an expensive replica?

First timer advice

I desperately want to practice today and remembered I have this out back. I was going to cut the red area out. Is that a good place to start cutting? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!!
