I want to start off with saying my son is orange. Due to the recent job market, I’ve had to move back in with my parents. My indoor cat enjoys roaming around in a larger home. However, he is driving me crazy. Two things to note, he’s extra curious for a cat and has to be involved in everything you are doing. I play with him for 15 minutes 3x a day alternating toys but he loses interest quickly and wants to go do something else.
He is jumping on the counters, shelves, and table anything he can get on or into. I grab him and put him down over and over and over (he has a cat tree to climb). I’ve tried tin foil and spraying with a spray bottle.
He wakes up around 3 am and I put him in my parent’s massive finished basement (where his litter box is) but he does MMA fighting on the basement door and wakes up the whole house. I usually have to wait him out but it makes me feel really bad. In my old place, when he would wake up I would put him out of my room and close the door so that I could sleep and he wouldn’t mess with the door.
This house has a screen porch and he likes to be out there but lost his privileges trying to climb the screen and incessantly attempt to break out of the door.
He’s my 4th cat but my first fully indoor cat and I feel like I’ve messed up along the way somehow. He’s also my third orange cat but definitely the most misbehaved. My other cats roamed during the day and came in at night. I don’t want him to be outdoor/indoor because he didn’t start off his life that way. I’m just really at my limit with patience and my parents are really frustrated with us. I’m sure he would benefit from a friend but right now I can’t adopt another cat. Is there anything I can do to make him happier? Sincerely, a first time indoor cat mom
