Help me understand Goldbacks as an European

hello guys, I am in the r/Gold sub and noticed the Golback bashing. i am here to genuinely understand why people buy goldbacks.

as an European, i have trouble understanding why one would buy decorated gold for 270% or more premium as an investment.

i can imagine giving away goldbacks as a low cost gimmick 'gold' gift, but how is it an investment as long as regular bullion continues to exist? as long it is not accredited as legal tender, it will not be able to seriously compete with fiat. as far as i know there is one manufacturer of these goldbacks, which really gives me pokemon card vibes.

Got this random 1 oz lunar coin

Been monthly buying unspecified 1 oz coins from sellers that sell 'varying quality / 2nd choice' coins for 7 years now. They always come in excellent condition and I buy them for zero to 0,8% premium. Until now I always got maple leafs and krugerrands. This is the first time in 7 years I got a kind of special coin.

By the way; it's my 80th 1 oz coin! Happy stacking!
