Okay so I had a bit of a curly hair wake-up call recently and I feel like I’ve been overcomplicating things lately, so I really need to yap.

For context, I have pretty dense 3B/3C curls and I moved somewhere more humid. Since then my hair has been crazy : frizzy by the end of the day, kinda dry but also weirdly sticky?? I couldn’t figure it out.

I went to a curl salon and honestly… the main thing I took away is that I’ve just been putting too much stuff on my hair. Also they clarified my hair with baking soda?? 😅

Like I thought I was “moisturizing” but apparently I was more just layering products and blocking my hair from actually absorbing water properly 😭

Plus I just started using the Got2b glued hair gel when I ran out of my regular kamaana flaxeed gel and so the second my hair hit humidity, all I had was frizz.

The consult was too simplified :

- it actually cleaned my lengths, not just my scalp

- the stylist used very light conditioners/products in teeny tiny amounts (peasize amounts vs my regular handful)tc

- switched to just a light leave-in instead of creams + gel combo

And at home, I started refreshing with water + a tiny bit of leave-in in the morning.

Here's what happened :

Day 1 - day of the cut :

felt airy, curls looked softer, less “producty”, almost like "just-got-out-of-the-shower-with-no-product-on-a-summer-day" - airy

Day 3 - today :

I’m actually kind of obsessed with the volume??

it’s way more airy and bouncy and it doesn't puff up and tangle likenit used to on day 1!

I literally did a 2 min refresh this morning (water + a bit of leave-in) and that was enough.

Small detail : a while ago another stylist convinced me that wetting my hair between washes is a no-no so I quit refreshing my hair for 2 years 💀💀

My only final comment is that yhe shape is taking a bit of getting used to. I feel like the back is slightly longer. Or maybe it’s just shrinkage doing weird things, I can’t tell yet.

I always thought I needed more product to control my hair but apparently… I needed less.

Let me see how it holds on for the rest of the week.

Curious if anyone else went through this phase of doing too much and then simplifying everything? Also do you think the overall shape is ok lol 😅 ??

I asked for layers and to keep it long, as long as its healthy.

Old routine : whatever conditionner i have on hand as prepoo to detangle

moline sulfate free shampoo

Brasileia 2in1 leavin and mask - curl love line (multiple scoops)

Flaxseed gel (4pumps) or lately the got2b glued strong hold gel (peasize amount because it's stickyy)

Diffused on high - medium heat

Jojoba oil when dry

New routine : moline sulfate free shampoo (4 pumps)

The salon brand cream (7 pea size pumps)

The salon brand leave-in conditionner ( 3 pumps)

Detangling only once after conditionner and finger defining my crown area.

Air dried.

Satin loose scrunchie + pineapple + satin bonnet at night.
