First off, Happy Mother’s Day to everyone in this thread. Whether your baby is earthside, heavenside, or still cooking in a belly you deserve a Happy Mother’s Day.

I just had a conversation with my own mom about how I was going to my in laws on Mother’s Day. She said something to the effect of “it’s ok, you’ll get to celebrate your own way next year.”
I’m not pregnant, my wife is. She is at the end of the 2nd trimester.
So my answer was “that’s an effed up thing to say to me. There’s a baby on the way.”
Mom: “yeah exactly you’re not a mother yet”
Me: “so what, [wife] is carrying a baby, she’s not a mother yet either?”
Mom: “yeah that’s exactly what I mean”
Me: “that’s an effed up thing to say to me”

And then she basically just got me off the phone and hung up.

Is this something that people still believe? Is this gaslighting? Is it fucked up? I have other family issues going on so I’m trying to figure out which way is up and if this is something that’s worth letting go of or pursuing. My family doesn’t know how to apologize to one another so I’m not counting on that happening in this universe.
