What does this mean? "Final decision - May 20, 2026:Your application is in progress. We will send you a message once the final decision has been made."

Hi everyone, just as what the title says, I noticed this message when I checked the CGkey portal yesterday

Latest update:
Final decision - May 20, 2026:Your application is in progress. We will send you a message once the final decision has been made.

I thought I would get a decision today but there's still no update. Do I expect to hear from them in, like, one or two days?

final decision in progress? what does it mean

So yesterday I noticed on the GCKey portal an update "Final decision - May 20, 2026:Your application is in progress. We will send you a message once the final decision has been made."

But it's May 21 now and I haven't received another update? When do I expect to hear from them again?

Also my Background check changed to "Not applicable." (It was something like "we are processing your background check" before)

Study Permit. What does this mean?

English major, but also a slow reader

I don’t know if anyone else feels the same way. English isn’t my first language, so my reading speed is around 30 pages per hour, and with more difficult material, like Faulkner, it drops to about 20. I spent a lot of time reading in undergrad, so I was able to do well. But now that I’m about to start grad school, I’m a little stressed out by the foreseeable long reading lists.

I do enjoy reading and writing papers, but am kind of frustrated by my reading speed, especially when I realize I can read 2 pages per minute in my first language

waiting anxiously for my study permit

I saw people getting their visitor visa within one week (someone even got theirs in ONE DAY!), and honestly dont know why study permit takes them longer. Getting very impatient right now.
Also I waited a month for CAQ, what a long process.

I got into school A’s MA program and accepted that offer last month. It’s a self funded program with no advisor assigned until the starting of the program. However now I am admitted into school B’s MA program, and they give me a tuition reduction, making it much more affordable than A. Also the living cost at B is significantly lower than A (A is a top notch in my field, but unfortunately, the living cost at the city where A is in is also a top notch.)

My worries are:
A) would it be unethical, unprofessional and rude to turn down A at this stage?
B) the reason I am doing a master degree is to boost my chances of getting into phd programs in the US (I did my undergraduate somewhere else), so what if, say, two years later, I submit my PhD application again to A, and they wouldn’t even consider my application bc of this history.
