I want to dive deeper into how hypergamy seems completely engraved in Tunisian culture. It feels like women are socially conditioned to only look for a guy who ranks higher than them socially, educationally, and financially.
This creates a really weird paradox in our society, especially when you look at high-achievers. We have brilliant female doctors and engineers who end up staying single for years. Why Because they refuse to date or marry down status-wise. Meanwhile, their male doctor colleagues have absolutely no issue marrying a local girl with a niveau lycee.
Why can’t women just date within their own class Why is there this constant need to find someone better instead of building a life with an equal
It’s not just a marriage problem, either. This completely ruins casual dating and hooking up too. Even for just a casual thing, an average girl will completely ignore decent guys right in her league. No matter what she looks like, she will only accept a guy who is a top-tier Chad type, refusing to give regular guys a chance while holding out for someone way more attractive or wealthy.
Why do you think this mindset is so deeply rooted in Tunisia Is it pure materialism, or is it pressure from family?
