Loved seeing Ed on Ari Melber on MS Now!

This makes me think the bubble is much closer to bursting than I even imagined. We have a debt and bond crisis, a private credit crisis and a car loan debt crisis on top of the coming crisis from the Iran war shutting off the straight of Hormuz, finally the main stream media is taking it seriously. It’s great to see Ed get a larger international audience. I’m terrified for the coming financial crisis but we have to have our eyes open to the coming catastrophe.

Has anyone else had "reformed" Ai-boosters start to suddenly text or send you anti-Ai articles as if they weren't making fun of your skepticism for the past few years?

I've been noticing an interesting phenomenon lately. People who spent the past 2 years telling me to prepare because Ai was going to take my job, that Ai was the future and I better get on board and get used to it, that I was just being a hater have started texting me anti-Ai articles, and saying "Good riddance" as though I don't have a working memory of arguing with them about it for literally years, lol. It's kind of like the Trump voters who are now embarrassed that they voted for him and they want you to forget that they did too so they are just acting like they can magically erase your memory of their words and actions. I have now had 3 old co-workers who were constantly hyping Ai start to act like they were always against it and it's hilarious and annoying. Anyone else experience this lately?

Are we going to talk about HOW MUCH MODERN MEDIA STOLE FROM Stallone’s Dredd??

I finally watched Stallone’s Judge Dredd tonight and I’m floored by how much media has borrowed or straight up copied the Dredd film?? “Hell Divers”, the antagonist from season 4-5 of Stranger Things, hell, even some of Mandalorian and 5th Element borrow shots and visuals from this movie. It’s really neat to see how much a film that flopped on release has gone on to be so influential!

Been really enjoying this book and wanted to recommend it!

I watched an interview with Emily Bender and it set me off on a little journey to read more from her. I also found the paper she co-wrote coining the term “Stochastic Parrot” for what LLMs do. It makes me glad that we have a great ally in someone like her from academia who shares my disdain for the Ai hype-grift. Just wanted to share it in case anyone was interested in reading it.

Zitron On Bloomberg on why people are anti-AI, SpaceX and OpenAI’s worrying price cuts

I hope Ed becomes a regular contributor to Bloomberg because we need bigger news outlets to be discussing his research since they don't seem to be willing or capable of doing the research themselves. I guess we have Elon and Space X's doomed IPO to thank for people, investors and journalists to finally be willing to listen to skepticism and they are finally seeing the evidence for what Ed, Cory Doctorow and Cal Newport and others have been screaming about. Ed cooked in this interview and special thanks to who ever made the thumbnail at Bloomberg, lol.

Just finished reading “Spectators” by Brian K Vaughan and who does it feel inspired by Korine’s work?

Baby Invasion feels like it could be an inspiration for the antagonist cult of sociopathic children in the cult created by Brian K Vaughan. The attention economy meets our worst impulses and the still forming neurons of adolescence feels like something birthed by Korine’s work.

The AI Bubble | Paul Kedrosky - Investor, Researcher, MIT Fellow

This is the most educated in the bad economics of Ai that I’ve ever seen. He does an excellent job of explaining the bad economics of the Ai Data Center build out, the fallacy of the price of tokens and inference going down but the cost of inference actually goes up due to the harnesses and agents using tokens around the clock. It makes me wonder why more investors don’t take the time to learn about what is obviously a speculative bubble. They really are lemmings.

I'm a computer animator who's got multiple decades working in the field but I'm embarrassed because I just never really learned how to script in either Python or Mel and I would really like some suggestions or recommendations for books or websites for beginners.

I've used Python scripts a lot at work but they were always written and constructed by others and I feel bad that I've gone my whole career not really knowing how to construct my own scripts and tools. I'm very right-brained and feel intimidated by code. Can anyone recommend some good books or websites for beginners? I think I can pick it up fast since I've been tangential to Python for years but I just need a clear explainer on the fundamentals.

Can anyone recommend a good introductory book on Python scripting for CGI? I’m a computer animated with decades of experience but I’ve never really learned how to script because it intimidated me.

I’ve been a computer animator for 26 years but I’ve done very little Mel or Python scripting myself having always felt intimidated by it. I’m very right brained but I have worked with and around Python scripts for years and I’d love some good book recommendations to help me get a grasp of the basics and fundamentals. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Reading this book by Sadie Plant that basically traces the women who had a huge impact on computer science such as Ada Loveless and surprisingly Anna Freud. Highly recommend it!
