Prologue round 1: Traverse only or full/normal round?

In the prologue to Lure of the Valley, when playing the first round ("Your goal this round is to travel from Ancestor’s Grove to Boulder Field." …"On the Common Tests card, you’ll find the Traverse test. During this round, you can use this test..."), is the intention that the rangers are only supposed to use the Traverse test, leaving other tests aside for the time being (e.g., round 2 similarly emphasizes the Connect test), or is it to play a full/normal round, where traveling to the Boulder Field is the main goal to work towards? (e.g., potentially connecting with a Sitka Doe to clear it in order to avoid fatigue before traversing?).

I realize in asking that many players would suggest just skipping the Prologue and starting with Day 1, but since we're a group who's not very experienced with EBR-style games, I like the incremental deck-building and role-playing elements of the Prologue. It's just not particularly clear to me how focused on a single action vs. general these initial rounds were intended to be.

I also realize that the stakes in the Prologue are non-existent and that we could probably choose to play it either way. Again, just curious what the designers' intentions were, or how others have interpreted these initial rounds.

Thanks!
