My step brother stole my firearm and committed suicide with it. We went shooting a month before and i noticed that it was missing after a few days and seched evry were for it and i even asked him if he had it which he said no. But I started to have health complications which took my focus off of writing an police report. 3 days before he shot himself one of his friends reached out to my stepfather saying that they were concerned about his mental health, when I herd this i notified my stepfather about the gun and told him to search his appointment and car which he did and didn't find anything. They than had dinner and my step brother said to my stepfather that the person that reached out was crazy and he was doing just fine. 2 hours later and his roommate/best friend found him dead in his apartment with my missing gun. God help me
I wanted to specify that I store all of my firearms in a safe and I had no reason to think my step brother would have lied to me about taking it from me as he was one of the first people i went to looking for it. It also turns out that his chat gpt history proves he specifically was planning days ahead to steel that firearm in proticuler and to commit suicide with it. I think I am realizing now that even if I had Finnished writing the police report it would have 0 effect on my step brothers decision to end his life. it is also worth noting that to report a firearm missing while highly encouraged is not required by law were i am located.
