Carotid duplex for determination of brain death

Transplant surgeon here, I just reviewed a paper for an esteemed Transplantation journal that suggested that point of care carotid duplex would be a cheaper, faster way to determine brain death in potential donors with confounding factors, such as medically induced coma, etc. It sounded like baloney to me; POCUS is great for things like sticking a needle in a vessel or a collection, or an FAST scan, but I would be terribly uncomfortable with someone thinking they could determine whether or not a patient was brain dead using it if they were not fully trained radiologists, and even then I’m not sure what the accuracy of the test would be. The review is already submitted, but I would love to hear anybody else’s thoughts.

I just ran about 1000 feet of 1 inch 100 psi poly pipe from my well to five field hydrants. I was unable to find metal fittings locally, so I used the blue plastic fittings from Lowe’s with two worm gears for each barb oriented opposite each other. I have lots of little leaks, and I’m not sure what my best move is. FWIW, I have a 60 gallon bladder tank set at 40/60. Should I:

  1. Remove all the worm gears and use the pinch clamps?

  2. Try to find the metal fittings? If so does anybody have advice for where to look?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice
