Unused irrigation zone to drip conversation question

Unused irrigation zone to drip conversation question

Had my driveway redone and extended which resulted in the removal of an irrigation zone. I have access to the underground poly tubing which I believe is 1".

I'd like to reduce it to 1/2" tubing, run that to my raised garden beds and then use button emitters from there.

60ft 1/2" run, 20gph max.

Do I need a pressure regulator (25psi?)

Thanks!

How to do a tight 180 with 1” pvc

Help! I had to replace this U turn section of 1 inch PVC. The problem I’m having is that the pipes come in from the right side very close together. They have to spread apart so I can connect the U shape. I’m having a hard time getting the pipe to go on very far because of the misalignment. I have tried twice, and I can only get the pipe on about a third of the way. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Christy's Red Hot Blue Glue

Has anyone noticed Red Hot going bad (jelly like) not long after opening the can? Even with fresh manufacture date, have had this happen the past couple of cans. Don't remember this happening so quickly before.

Notice: Make sure you cap your curb key tubes

Apparently some people think it can make rocks disappear, which then becomes a nuisance to you when you can't get the key on the stop and waste.

Rain bird sensor shows full battery and good signal but screen is blank?

So when I hold the 2 arrows I get a status of battery and signal. They seem good. Then when I press ANY other button I get nothing (second pic).

I can't program or set limits. The sensor is just over 2 yrs old and I've checked the wiring on the main controller. Everything is wired correctly.

Not sure what the issue could be?

Ideas as to how to fix it?

Very new to irrigation stuff, so if you need any extra info just let me know.

I have a new client with some irrigation set up by the previous homeowner.

It runs from the tap along his 12m long garden bed, working fairly well from some holes but not others.

The pressure along seems fine, it comes out some holes reasonably well but not others, seeming random.

Just wanted some ideas as to what could be causing it and if a newbie like me could potentially fix it.

Thanks in advance

RainBird or Drip Depot

I am setting up a drip irrigation system as we will be leaving out of town next couple of days. I already have a Melnor water timer, just figuring out going with Rainbird or Drip Depot for the kit. Which do you recommend?

**Professional Opinions Only Please**

What do you guys think about this new trend of Technicians being base + commission?

Personally, I think it's a slimey, disingenous, way of doing business and it encourages technicians to replace, say, a valve box that didn't need to be replaced. ANYTHING possible, every little bit, to bump those numbers up.

Even if they say they don't do that, I mean, the only person that's going to know is the tech getting the commission.

Time and Materials or Flat Fee to an HOURLY employee paid a FAIR wage.

I've heard of 10 bucks and hour + Commission before, and I think it cheats the customers and the employees. The customers cause they're getting the higher cost of paying the technicians, and the tecnicians cause they aren't actually learning to JUST solve the problem, but create others too.

Replacement Hunter X-Core

Hunter X-Core controller was acting wonky. Would run sprinklers when system dial was set to OFF. Needed to replace it. Called local place and was told cost was $350+ (I asked for the cost of the unit, not sure if install would be tacked onto that price.) Did some investigating and saw the changeover process to be fairly simple. Amazon for the win and saved close to $200 CDN for the unit . Install took 20 minutes start to finish.

Is $500 a fair price for a wiring diagnosis only?

I have an irrigation company that I’ve used almost 5 years. I used to get the owner who is fantastic but now I get techs. That’s fine usually. I have two stations that stopped coming on within the last month. I call them out thinking it’s a valve or something. The tech is out walking my yard for 4.5 hours. He never fixed the problem but diagnosed it as old wiring that needs to be replaced. The owner called me and explained they tried switch common wires/jumping the system to avoid having to replace the wiring as it is about 200 feet to the valve around a pool enclosure and under a few wooden boards. Ultimately nothing worked. The owner admitted the tech was on the phone with him most of the time while he walked him through it. He even said he might come back over to look at it himself since it’s his specialty. Told me he would discount it since I’ve been a customer a long time. I got a $710 bill discounted to $500. Is there anyway that is a fair bill? I was a little shocked to get that bill when my system still doesn’t work. I feel they should have stopped after two hours or at least knocked on the door to ask me if they should keep going. I mentioned to owner and he double down on price.
I feel it should have been $3-400 for the time/attempts

Edit to add: we had already paid them a few years back for wiring tracing. So they should have known exactly the path. This is in central Florida if that changes anything

Drip Irrigation and sediment

Hello, I am about to have a landscaping company install drip irrigation. I just read that drip irrigation should not be used if there is sediment in the well water. Is this accurate. I do have problems with my ice maker and the filter due to the segment. Any insight would be appreciated.

Sprinkler Layout

How would y’all lay out a system here? I drew a mock design and wondered how y’all “pros” would do it. The yard it basically 32ft x 15ft with a weird diagonal side. It would be fed from a 3/4 line off the water main.

Leaks every 1-3 days

Two years back I moved into a 13 year old house with a single station drip irrigation setup, so not sure how old the irrigation is. We immediately had a leak, that I took a few months to get someone to it to fix it. Seemed like a nice company, got charged a lot for little though.

A few months later we again got a leak, different spot. Thought I could fix it as I could see it. But decided against it due to a little more digging needed. First one didn’t respond, finally found someone else months later. They fixed it. Showed me some red irrigation heads in the ground, said that was the wrong way to do it and they took it off (me cursory watching YouTube video just previous night, felt they are good for pressure control, but I can be totally off). Well after that first leak fix, every 1-3 days I’m getting a leak in a different spot. The tech says, pressure is normal, but with the warm weather, weak spots are going to get exposed like clockwork. Just fixed it yesterday (said it was thinner pipe) and again this morning, there’s a large leak in another spot. This will be the 4th one _after_ the original one just by this tech.

At this point what is my solution? Just keep spending every 3-4 days doing patches? It’s one station, front and back, and overhaul is going to be too expensive. Thanks.

Sprinkler Advice Needed

Hello. New and first time homeowner here. The section in Orange is leaking and spraying water. I’ve turned off the water supply to here. It looks just to be loose. No cracks found.

A neighbor told me that I would need to cut it out and replace with a new PVC fitting? Another neighbor told me I can just apply some sort of PVC bond on the outside?

Who’s right? Also, if neither them, what’s a better solution and what parts/supplies do I need to get? Thanks!!

New Homeowner please interpret what is going on

As we are hitting warmer weather we are attempting to turn on the sprinkler system that came with the house. No clue what anything in this box means and we can’t get any of the sprinklers to work. I know there’s gotta be a valve to turn on the water somewhere but we just can’t find it. Help please!

Drain system

What is the purpose of this drain system and is it more efficient than having the water drain outside versus underground? It rains a lot here and the mulch becomes very wet.

Question about manifold

New to this wondering if doing a copper manifold is okay. My father did his all copper and told me to do the same, but I don’t see anyone else doing I only see PVC it. Is there a reason why? Or just preference.
