Ben Augee, new midfielder - 25 day contract

2025 MLS Draft to FC Cincinnati / FCC2 MLSNP / Gonzaga / 6’3” midfielder / 7 goals 4 assists in 35 games in 2 years at Gonzaga / available for tomorrow’s match

I’m reading this as bad news for Mark Segbers. Matt Cairns previous told us that we were done with the roster after JahLane Forbes was added. I will say that we felt one midfielder light in last week’s match, as I said in the pod it felt like the plan was to save Castro as a second half sub and instead we spent him early.
However, a 25 day contract is truly a trial period, so maybe this isn’t a long term injury for Segbers - but it’s still tough to have both captains out at this time.

I also feel bad for Kage, wish he got more minutes, and seems like Machesan is also not coming back soon.

Moooooving up the Power Rankings

A power outage at Breese can’t stop us from being at the top of the L1 power rankings!

Twenny Derby tonight 🥃

I don’t want this rivalry match to come and go without a peep because it’s a Wednesday or cause we beat our actually good rival last week - this is the 20th edition of the Henny Derby!

Forward holds the series lead with 10 wins (Richmond 7) but the aggregate score last season was 6-4 in favor of the Kickers, due to their 5-1 win in the second-last match of the season (which all but knocked us out of the playoffs). That said, Forward won the first two matches last season, meaning the Henny wintered at Breese Stevens this offseason.

Every player is under club control for next season.

We broke the news on 608 Soccer Show that every player currently on the roster, (including Enderly and Forbes) is under contract next season. I’m reading that to mean that Cairns has got his guys, and we’re building something not just for this year but for next season and beyond, and I’m loving that. Matt also personally guaranteed (and you can’t lie on a podcast) that there won’t be 20 new guys on the team next season.

I think that reflects a new direction for a club - a departure from getting plug n play L1 vets, and is the dice roll that it takes to go from 9th to trophy contention. I also love that transfer fees are going to be a part of the club’s business strategy. Let’s get paid to develop all the guys on our roster.

Am I reading too much into this??

Huge 608 Soccer Show episode

Hey Flock End friends, Ethan here - I know we say every show is good, but this Matt Cairns episode is probably one of the most revealing episodes we’ve ever done in terms of FM transfer strategy & long term business.
Give it a listen: https://open.spotify.com/episode/1OFa7MB2l5lVaHSi83kwjp?si=0VUpjBmUQHObYr8-P8X6BQ or wherever you get your podcasts.

I wanna ask a question on here about one of the big quotes Matt gave us, but I don’t wanna spoil it so give it 38 minutes of your life and then check in tomorrow ✅

Returning players

One cool aspect of having a bunch of L1 vets is that we’ve got a lot of guys scattered around the league - and Jake Crull is one that I’m looking forward to having back at Breese the most. Dont get me wrong, I hope he loses 0-6 but it’s always fun to have a guy (who left on good terms) come back. Any other guys you’re looking forward to having back?

Do you ever get embarrassed by your own team diving?

Asking this now because we haven’t had an example lately so hoping for some unbiased opinions - but another bird themed team who seems to win all their matches on ref decisions went down rather theatrically in a 1-1 match in the 83rd (you’ll be happy to know that karma struck and the pen went over; alas, they still won)

So do you ever get embarrassed if our team was to go down easily to win a foul late in a close game? Not asking about clear fouls - but would there ever be a situation where you’d be embarrassed about on a weak penalty, results aside?

Pregame @ Breese

$5 beers the hour before the game is a good enough deal to get me down to the stadium - anyone else going? Come and find me (bucket hat) to chat about anything!

With USL Premier coming, does that just push L1 down to a fourth tier league?

Sure, they can call USL P a “First Division” league, but in no other country is two first division leagues a thing, and MLS is obviously on top right now. The whole concept of a first division is that there’s no one above it. So is this whole scheme pushing current L1 teams down a level?

What are the ideal ships for your automatic trading convoy?

I’m to the point where I have about 30 convoys and 27 of them are going automatically. I don’t look at them, occasionally use the other 5 convoys to fight pirates, so I’m not worried about defending the 27 auto convoys.

What would your ideal configuration of ships be?

I’m doing 3 liners per convoy to defend and then if I need more storage space than 1200 then stick on trading flyuts as needed. Wondering if Caravels or Wargalleons would be smarter or more cost effective.

Question about late game war

I’m 19 years into a free play save, and for the last 3 years, England has been attacking a Spanish town. That’s fine, but it stops me from attacking pirate hideouts or other islands. How do I get this to end? I have a letter of marque from Spain, but they’re 17% power and England is 28% power. If I starve all of englands villages, will they forfeit the war? Anyone else had this happen to them? This also happened to me in my previous save. My eventual goal is to capture every town, and this is standing in my way.
