Today’s market research changed how I think about selling AI
Today I spent some time researching the market to understand how people actually see AI, and honestly, I found something interesting.
A lot of people have heard about AI, but they don't really know what it can actually do. For many people, AI means using ChatGPT to search for something, ask for advice, write something, or generate an image. That's where their understanding usually stops.
Most people don't know what AI agents are. They don't know what AI automation means, and they definitely don't know how these things can actually be used inside a business.
That made me think about something from the perspective of selling.
Imagine going into the market and telling a business owner, “I can automate your business with AI.” The problem is, he may not even know what part of his business needs automation. He just sees another person trying to sell him something called AI.
Even if your system could save him hours, handle repetitive work, respond to customers faster, or stop leads from being forgotten, he won't necessarily care because he doesn't understand the problem or what the solution actually means for him.
That's why I think before selling AI automation, you sometimes have to educate first.
Show the person the problem. Explain how the process currently works. Show them where time, money, or opportunities are being lost. Then show them how automation can change that process.
I think this is also one of the reasons many people struggle to get clients. It's not always because they aren't working hard. Sometimes they are simply sending generic emails and DMs to strangers and immediately pitching a service that the other person doesn't understand.
You're asking someone to buy a solution before they've even understood the problem.
So for me, the lesson from today's research was pretty simple: don't just sell AI. Help people understand what AI can actually do for them.
And I'm curious about your experience too. If you have any questions about AI automation or AI agents, feel free to ask me. And if you've already used AI in your work or business, I'd genuinely like to know: how are you using it right now, and at what level?
