Yama Cirriform w/ bug skirt & S2S Ultralight XR Reg
I got my Yama Cirriform w/ bug skirt and the S2S Ultralight XR Regular in the mail this morning and wanted to set it all up and see what we're working with.
The Cirriform is incredibly easy to setup. I am notoriously bad at using tarps and tarp shaped shelters. I've had a protrail that I struggled with, a Borah tarp and bivy, and a SMD Deschutes with the bug netting that just ended up being too cramped.
None of them were as easy as this was to setup. It's also extremely windy today and the tarp is flat out silent. That was unexpected but welcome.
I followed the pole height recommendations, but ended up raising the rear a couple of inches to give my feet a little extra room. I'm 6'2 220 lbs so I seem to fall in the not quite big enough for extra long or wide gear, but too big for the regular stuff. At least in my past experiences that's been the case. Either way, there's a lot more space than expected. It would get cramped having to ride a days worth of bad weather, but just about any shelter would.
I've got the new Sea to Summit Ultralight XR in there and it is surprisedly comfortable out of the gate. Packs down crazy small for an R-Value of 3.6 that you get out of it. But I've been using Large/Wide Exped pads for the last couple of years. And while they are comfortable and warm, they are extremely burly even when packed down.
The stuff sack has a built in pump sack which is kind of neat in my opinion just because it's an all in one design. Took maybe 5 or 6 full bags to get it inflated. I have not packed it back up yet, so no comments on any of that yet.
Overall I'm really excited for this setup. Just need to treat the skirting and the groundsheet with permethrin since ticks are pretty heavy around here. I also think it'll help with bug pressure since the netting may have some gaps in it depending on the terrain.
I'll update the post with some weights once I get everything treated and packed back up.
