If Trump's disaster of a presidency leads to massive, fundamental change such as universal health care, would it be worth it?

Don't get me wrong, Trump is doing awful things to this country, but would a future with things like universal healthcare and renewable energy-independence be worth it?

If the US never experienced someone like Trump, I wonder if we would have seen the rise in popularity of democratic socialism like we are now. Not saying it's mainstream yet, but maybe it took someone like Trump to come in and wreck things so badly it might actually accelerate the transition to a society that actually works for the people?

There are people like me who were actively voting against Trump to protect the status quo, but I'm at the point where I want to put forward candidates who run on policies that will move our country forward. I think those policies would be way more popular than anything the establishment is putting out there currently and they know it. Certainly, they would be popular enough to win elections in many places.

Options for raising a sprinkler head that uses 3/4” connection?

I’m leveling part of my lawn and one of the bigger sprinklers is a 3/4” connection. I just need to raise it about 6” to make it flush with the new lawn but pretty much all the risers I can find are male/male. It looks like I can get an adapter to convert the male connection in the ground to female so that I can use one of those male/male risers but why don’t they make any that are male/female?

Related questiwhy are all the risers I see in the store are male/male when every sprinkler head I’ve ever seen has a female connection?

OneDrive managed folder sync not working for anyone else?

Deploying new devices with 25H2, June build, and was alerted that OneDrive isn't syncing the user's desktops. Verified this myself on a new laptop, went into the OneDrive settings and the three managed folders are unchecked and not backed up. This has worked for YEARS. The laptop is getting other OneDrive policies, just not the managed folder backup.

Not sure if it has something to do with the OS build or not. My workstation is on 26200.9106 and it's working properly.

72” Rolling tool chest or 56” + 27”?

Was looking at the 72” tool chest since it’s on sale for $1399 but the 56” plus 27” is $1300. Seems like a better option right?

Do the smaller cabinets go on sale on Labor Day?

Modern RV Safety?

My dad has a 90s era RV that he really wants me to borrow to take our kids camping. Our kids are 10 and 7. They both still ride in boosters (10yo is small).

I know RVs aren’t structurally sound outside the vehicle can. A crash in one is really bad for anyone riding in the cabin. Also, from what I’ve read, if they do have seatbelts they likely aren’t bolted to the frame. And even if they did, an accident is going to send tons of stuff flying around.

I’m going to pass on borrowing the RV but even if you don’t have kids, some of these RVs have bunk beds and tons of sleeping and all that, presumably for a family, but that family should drive separately? Seems dumb to me! Even if it was a group of adults it seems like a bad idea to ride in the back cabin!

I really like the idea of an RV but I think trailers make more sense from a safety perspective, although they have their own sets of pros and cons.

Dell Command Update for BIOS Updates - What is your process?

Looking to start being more aggressive with BIOS updates for our Dells and curious how you are using DCU to manage updates?

Using Windows Update in Intune is not an option (happy to explain in detail) so we want to look at DCU. It looks like you can configure a number of settings with Intune to control DCU, including automatic updates, but why not just deploy a remediation script that runs dci-cli commands?

If I run the update utility via remediation script, then I can run it on demand whenever as well as scheduled.

2016 V6 clunk at 40mph.

99k miles. When decelerating slowly (light brake or coasting) I get this thud or clunk as I hit 40mph. Doesn’t happen all the time but enough to be noticeable.

Recently did a drain and fill on the transmission but the issue was there prior.

Any ideas?

Managing Entra Registered objects: What do you do with the random phones and other stuff?

Periodically I go through our tenant to do some cleanup but it always bothered me that there are so many of these registered personal devices in here. I am pretty sure they are registered because someone signed in to an app and prompts them to manage this device, or this app only and the leave the device option checked. Can I periodically delete them? Disable them? It's more of an annoyance than anything else.

We are fully Intune-managed. No hybrid. No personal devices.

Teams not auto-updating: Bootstrapper vs Add-AppProvisionedPackage

When deploying Teams, is there a difference between downloading the latest MSIX package and running Add-AppProvisionedPackage versus using the bootstrapper exe? Long story but some of our clients are getting banner messages saying Teams is out-of-date and prompting them to download the latest version. We don't want that. If they go into Teams and check for updates it does find and apply the latest update but it's a manual proces.

We are using the MSIX package method and the documentation seems to state that if Teams is not installed via the Bootstrapper then it won't update automatically. The documentation also says the bootstrapper simply downloads the latest msix file and provisions it for all users.

What really happens if the Straight of Hormuz stays closed for the next year? (USA)

Are current prices the actual price of oil without the 20% or so of oil that comes through Hormuz? Like if the straight were to never open again would they plateau to a degree? I keep hearing how our strategic reserves are helping buffer the prices but we are also close to running out and when that happens app bell breaks lose.

Personally I’d like for the world to get used to using less oil but we aren’t there yet.

Do you use a prefix for device name? If not, do you use group tags instead?

We have seven departments we manage. All enrolled through Autopilot with device name templates, similar to below.

  • ST01-SERIAL
  • ST02-SERIAL
  • CORP-SERIAL

Process is this: Give it a group tag in AP > Dynamic group picks up the device based on GT > Group has the Autopilot Profile assigned which gives it the device name.

All of our AP Profiles are identical with the exception of the device name template.

I am considering ditching the prefix altogether and just going with something generic like "ORG-SERIAL" for everything. All sorting would be done via group tag. The biggest downside to this is that when you go into Devices you won't know what's what but that's not REALLY a big deal since the serial number is in the name.

Seems like it would simplify a lot of stuff to just use the group tag to sort a device. We can apply all our policies to that group too and they will be there much sooner because they don't need to wait for Autopilot to fully process.

Anyone in K12/HigherEd using PatchMyPC? How useful is it actually?

Hope this is allowed...

I am curious how many of you out there in the Education space (K12/Higher Education) are using PatchMyPC? We have so many specialty titles that will likely never make it into their catalog and I assume many in education are similar. Random state-specific testing apps or calculator software etc...

It just doesn't seem worth it when we don't have that many apps that update with any frequency. If I still need to hand-update a bunch of apps once per year then it doesn't seem like it would be a justifiable expense.

Some of the most annoying apps to update are a pain because they are special education licenses. AutoDesk products for example, require me to prove I work for education and then I am able to download the latest version of AutoCAD or whatever. I doubt any third-party app management tool could handle this.

USSSA bat similar to LS 919 Prime?

My kid has been using the LS Prime for about two seasons and really likes it. We’re looking into club teams where you can use USSSA so I’m curious what bats might be comparable to the Prime as far as feel etc.

I don’t know a ton other than the prime is a two-piece composite, balanced bat. Is it bad to get a used composite bat? Not looking to spend $300-$400 on a bat if he wants to play in a league that doesn’t allow them.

Intentionally walking a batter in AA championship?

Normally I would say let the kids play. But my kids team has the championship game this weekend against the top team. Multiple kids on that team play for one of the top club teams in our area but one kid in particular is a standout. I don’t have a problem with club kids also playing little league but he should probably be playing in AAA.

Last time we faced them he mowed us down with strikeouts when they brought him in to close the game out. Our kids had never seen someone throw that hard and that accurate before. We are fortunate to have pitchers who can throw strikes but he crushes them.

Since it’s the championship he’s for sure going to pitch and will probably go deep into the game. Our kids aren’t the best hitters but they are good enough and are disciplined enough to take walks when they need to.

Normally in baseball one player can’t make all the difference but in this case having a really good pitcher is a huge asset. Is it wrong wanting to at least take that part of their offense away?

I understand wanting to beat the best and for our pitcher to say “I got that guy out!” would be pretty cool.

More Remediation woes?

I posted about the recent service degradation notice for Proactive Remediation reporting...

Initially it was "up to 24 hours" and then I get an email Friday night saying service has been restored.

Well, now there is nothing in the console. It just says "Something went wrong: Unable to fetch any remediation script package. Please try again later."

Interestingly enough the service restoration email said the delay was seven days when the service degradation email said "up to 24 hours". Which one is it Microsoft? And it can't be both!

I knew it!!!!! Service Degredation reported for Proactive Remediations!

A few months ago I posted on here asking if proactive remediation reporting in Intune was all of a sudden extremely delayed.

I've been a heavy user of Proactive Remediations for yers! I ALWAYS got data showing up in the console within a few hours max, yet all off a sudden it was taking DAYS to get anything to show up. People told me "It's in the documentation! It can take up to 24 hours! Stop whining!"

Well they just sent out a service degradation alert yesterday saying "Some admins may experience up to 24-hour delays in Proactive Remediation reporting in the Microsoft Intune admin center" which tells me this NOT expected behavior!

Anyways, the point of this post is not to talk bad about anyone on my previous post. Really, I just thought I might be going crazy and imagining stuff and it turns out I wasn't (at least on this issue).

Would an "economic secession" work in the US where states can opt out of federal "benefits"?

It seems more and more like the current political system in the United States does not work well. So many divisive issues that stand in the way of actual progress but an actual secession resulting in two countries is highly unlikely.

I am curious if some variation of the following could work?

The federal government would handle defense/military duties and enforce some basic human rights such as no slavery, not children working in factories at age 12, etc. The list of things the federal government would police in all states would be small. States could opt out of all taxes and funding related to everything else.

States that opt out would not have access to federal resources such as FEMA aid, education funding, big infrastructure projects, SNAP, etc. They are on their own for all of it.

States that opt in have access to the massive pool of shared federal resources. I think of it like buying your own health insurance vs your employer insurance. Employers can often provide better rates because they pool their resources.

I know it's not that simple and there are plenty of people in red states that would likely be hurt by something like this if we are being honest. Maybe there could be some kind of relocation agreement between the states where for example, the opt-in states will help people leave the opt-out states or something.

Anyone printing ABS on the N4Plus? Can you share your setup and results?

Looking into ABS and at first I was thinking I'll just get a dedicated, enclosed printer for ABS but then I was like, why not see if others are having luck printing ABS? I still might go the dedicated printer route so I don't have to worry about changing profiles/filament, etc.
