Holidays at Boot Camp

I’ve seen some old posts talking about how boot camp is during the holidays and I wanted to ask if anyone had any more recent accounts of how it is with a Nov 4th date?

Navy Intel Officer Appraisal Interviews Necessary?

Hey everyone, currently working on my packet for Intel commissioning as a civilian and when I asked my recruiter if we could schedule my interviews he said they weren’t required for Intel.

It’s to my understanding that it is necessary, or at the very least very strongly recommended to have 2-3 NAVCRUIT 1131/5 Interviewer Appraisal Sheets along with my kit.

Could someone explain this to me and what should I tell him?

OAR Advice & Intel Target Score? (3.88 GPA, D1 Athlete, M.S) – Testing in < 2 Weeks

Hello everyone,

Packet Snapshot:
GPA: 3.88 cumulative undergrad GPA
Education: Bachelor’s in Criminology & Master’s in Sports Management
Background: Former D1 student-athlete
Scores: 97 ASVAB (I know it’s very different)
LORs: Includes 1 from a former Recruiting Master Chief and looking for more.

The Situation:
I take the OAR in less than two weeks. Despite scoring well on the ASVAB, I am pretty nervous about this exam—I’ve never taken a physics class, and my math is definitely rusty.

Questions:

  1. Target OAR Score: Given the rest of my packet, what score range should I be aiming for to be genuinely competitive for an Intel officer designator? What’s realistic for me and what are the most accurate practice tests?

  2. Best high-yield study resources/strategies for brushing up on math and learning basic mechanics/physics concepts in under 14 days? -I looked around Reddit and even bought the Peterson’s course but it hasn’t been too good.

Appreciate any advice or recommended prep materials.

OCS Intel (3.78 GPA, M.S.,D1 Athlete) | Realistic odds of Shore Duty & how brutal is OCS?

I’m currently putting together a packet for Navy OCS with my eyes set on Intelligence (1830). I’m taking my OAR next week, but I wanted to get some unfiltered, straight-up advice on my profile, OCS itself, and what life looks like afterward.

Here’s my quick background:
Education: BS in Criminology, MS in Sport Management. GPA is 3.78. Scored a 97 on the ASVAB (I know it’s different).
Physical: 28M, Former Division 1 athlete. I'm in pretty good physical shape (12min 1.5mi, 72 pushups 2min, 3min plank) but I know OCS is a different beast.

A few specific questions for those who have been through it or are currently in the Intel community:

  1. How hard is OCS really? Be brutally honest. Physically, I’m not a fatass, but I’m not a swimmer/floater and how is the mental/academic side?

  2. What are the realistic odds of getting rolled back? I've heard rollbacks (especially for injury, failing room/uniform inspections, or random admin things) are incredibly common. Is it as easy to get rolled as people say?

  3. What are the actual odds of landing an on-shore duty station out of the gate? As an Intel officer, how likely is it that my first tour is sea duty.

Appreciate any insight, advice, or reality checks you guys can throw my way. Thanks

Reserve IS Questions/Advice

Background: 28 y/o Master’s in Athletic Management, 97 ASVAB, and a former athlete, though I am a terrible swimmer who completely lacks buoyancy.

Looking for some insight on enlisting as an Intelligence Specialist (IS) in the Reserves:

  1. Is Intel a good pick? Given my background in public safety, is the IS rate a fulfilling and solid choice for a Reservist?
  2. Post-Grad Employability: How marketable will I be in the civilian world combining a Top Secret clearance with my Master’s degree?
  3. IS A-School Difficulty: How long and academically difficult is the Intel Specialist A-School (Dam Neck)?
  4. Training Freedoms: What kind of freedoms or privileges (liberty, off-base access, electronics) do you actually get while in A-School as a Reservist?
  5. Pre-Contract/Pre-Boot Camp Advice: Is there anything critical I need to know, negotiate, or watch out for before I sign the contract and ship out?

Appreciate any insight!

Anxiety Medical Waiver

I’ll try to make this short, back in january and april of this year I was prescribed anxiety meds for one time usage to help with polygraph anxiety specifically. I don’t believe i was ever diagnosed with generalized anxiety officially since it’s situational.

I scored great on my ASVAB with a 98, I have a master’s degree and I’d really like to go 1NOX1 Intelligence.

What are my odds of getting a waiver if I wait a few months so it’s least 6 months+ separated? Yes I know the air force is strict but I’m hoping with the new fiscal year and a recruiter/officer vouching for me there’s a chance.

With that being said should I speak to a recruiter now or wait until august when I’m further from the meds and they may be more willing to help?

Anything I can bring to Meps to help out with my odds? I can and have gotten an all clear letter from my doctor and the psychologist I saw in the past. Also just inquired about the actual medical notes.

Advice/Tips on Career Start

Hi everyone, I’m 27 y/o and I have a Master’s degree with 2-3 years of good job experience. I’ll be done with my EMT school in October and I’m in great shape as a former D1 athlete.

Are there any departments in Florida that would sponsor my Fire/Paramedic Academies right after I’m done with EMT?

Any other pieces of advice to start my career are welcomed, including what places to stay away from or look at.

USPP Rehire?

Has anyone actually gotten rehired after reapplying with USPP?

I got my hired and due to some paperwork issues I had to resign while onboarding. I was a few days into the job already.

They told me to re apply when the next announcement opens over summer and that I wouldn’t be the first guy to come in again, but part of me thinks they just said that to make me feel better.

I know my background & other stuff may not have to be redone, but is this actually a possibility?

USPP Time Off/Living

Two Questions here.

  1. Do you get federal holidays off while at FLETC? (Also would you get the Friday before the 4th of July off?)

  2. After FLETC do you get time before heading to Maryland to find a place to live? Or any assistance?

Hi everyone, I recently got my 05/11 orientation week & 05/17 FLETC date in Glynco and I was wondering what to expect as far as living conditions (roommates, bathrooms, cleanliness, food, etc) and if there’s anything I could do to possibly secure a better spot as I’ve heard some units only share a bathroom (like maybe getting there earlier or later).

If anyone has advice (like what to bring and such) it’d be very appreciated as it’s my first time sharing a room with somebody and/or not having a kitchen. I can’t imagine having to eat from a cafeteria everyday.

DM me if you’d prefer and thank you in advance.
