I'm 16 Where do I ever begin

I've always wanted to be a pilot since I was a kid but I'm pretty sure it's impossible but just checking

The reasons I think it's impossible is because I live in Ireland so I don't know if they even accept people from here

I have no flight experience whatsoever which I assume is needed to start training

My eyesight definitely isn't 20/20 but isn't bad I don't have glasses

What can I expect entering the fleet as a first accession E-5?

Found out I passed the E-5 exam and waiting to get frocked. My main worry is how I'll be treated because of how new I am as an E-5, especially by those who perceive only my rank and don't realize I'm fresh. I do feel like that I don't really deserve this rank, even though I did everything right to gain it so early. However, I would like to do my best to live up to the rank. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but I'd like my transition into the fleet to be as smooth as possible.

I am in a Delayed Entry Program, and I am trying to prepare for myself for the Physical Fitness Assessment. I can only do 10 push up, 1 minute of Planking and 2 minutes non-stop running. I am so weak.

Naval Aviator Options/Lifestyle

I just graduated from an Ivy League where I was a three season varsity athlete. I was accepted to both West Point and the Naval Academy out of high school, but ultimately chose the school I am at for athletic reasons. I wanted to participate in the NCAA to the best of my ability without the lifestyle aspects of service academy/ROTC programing (lack of sleep, higher stress, etc) which I felt would negatively affect my competition performance. I knew that if I was still interested in a career in military service, I would just re-evaluate that upon my graduation from college. Here I am, a few years later, still very much motivated by the Naval Officer Aviation pipeline, and hoping for any and all comments on that.

I am headed to graduate school for a year, but have the goal of entering OCS around this time next year. I have just reached out to an officer recruiter in my area to get the process started.

What would you say the difference is between officers who matriculated from the Naval Academy and those who participated in OCS? Is there a better time of year to complete OCS? Did most people have aviation experience before heading to flight school (a pilot's license, perhaps, etc?) Do most people re-sign at the end of their initial contract? What are the resources in terms of financial planning and transitioning back into the private sector at the end of your service? Any and all general thoughts and comments, as well as recommended resources would be greatly appreciated.

Dropping out of Navy OCS

I am two weeks into Navy OCS and I want to drop from the program as I don’t like it here. I am a SWO candidate and a civilian with no collegiate program affiliation. What is the best and fastest way to drop and how long does it take to get discharged? Will I be considered a veteran since I am an E5 now at the OCS? Can I apply and get into federal jobs later in my life if I drop from the OCS?
Thank you!

Need advice on how to get better physically before I go to bootcamp in 5 weeks

I'm a 5'2, 149 pound female and I've been running for months but I'm still pretty slow and can only managed to do 30 minutes for the 1.5 mile run.

I also am unable to do a single push up but have maxxed out my planks.

I need genuine advice because to be honest I am not a very physically fit or active person but I really really want to keep up while in bootcamp.

How does this normally go?

My husband will be shipping off in a few weeks and he is going undesignated (not sure if this is a good or bad thing, I have seen mixed reviews).

But after basic training, will we immediately move since there is no A-school?
When will he know where he will be stationed at?

astronaut dreams crushed by navy

I joined the af in hopes of going to space some day, hearing that this was one of the only ways. Recently found out chances of NASA sending people into space in the future is unlikely, as the only ways ppl have gone to space recently is through private companies. Crushed that I wasted my life working towards this dream only for it to not help me towards my goal of being an astronaut at all. Putting this here to warn others

Possible path to RW/CWT as a green card holder with robotics/software background?

I posted earlier about Robotics Warfare/CWT, but I don’t think I explained my situation clearly.

I’m a lawful permanent resident/green card holder. I’m currently a mid-level software engineer at a FAANG company, and I have a master’s degree in Robotics/AI. My background is robotics, software, autonomy, and artificial intelligence.

My main interest is Robotics Warfare because robotics is genuinely my passion, and I want to serve the country in a technical role where my background can be useful. I know I would be leaving a good civilian career, so I’m trying to understand the process clearly before making any decision.

Ideally, I would like to enter in a way where my existing education and experience are properly evaluated, and where I can contribute as a subject matter expert if the Navy determines that is appropriate.

I reached out respectfully through the proper channels and was told that my background aligns well with Robotics Warfare, and that TS/SCI is not a rating entry requirement. That confused me because I thought citizenship or clearance would automatically block me from getting a Robotics Warfare contract.

My recruiter said he will work with his leadership and the Robotics Warfare community manager to see if there is a proper path forward, especially since citizenship may be possible during boot camp.

I would also love to pursue the officer path if I qualify or once I become eligible. If anyone familiar with officer programs can guide me on that side as well, I would really appreciate it. I’m not asking for special treatment or trying to bypass the system. I’m trying to understand the realistic path forward before MEPS.

My questions are:

  1. Can a green card holder contract for Robotics Warfare if TS/SCI is not a rating entry requirement?
  2. If Robotics Warfare still requires citizenship before contract/signing, would naturalizing during boot camp help at all, or would it be too late for the initial contract?
  3. If Robotics Warfare is not possible before naturalization, what should I ask for or avoid signing before MEPS?
  4. Is CWT any different from Robotics Warfare regarding citizenship/clearance requirements?
  5. Is it normal for a recruiter to coordinate with leadership and the community manager on a situation like this?
  6. For someone with my background, is there an officer path I should be looking at once I qualify or become eligible?
  7. Is there any accession path where my robotics/software background could be evaluated for subject matter expert-type placement or consideration?

Any guidance from classifiers, recruiters, or people familiar with Robotics Warfare/CWT accessions or officer programs would be appreciated. Thank you.

I’m confused about getting medically discharged

So I swore in this Thursday, And I am a little confused on if I am going to be medically discharged after I get to bootcamp, Looking it up I should’ve been discharged by the Medical Staff and my Recruiting officer. I took a mood stabilizer for about a month called Abilify, I disclosed it fully and was told it “Shouldn’t be a problem” but apparently if I took it within the last 36 months I’m ineligible. I wasn’t diagnosed with depression or bipolar disorder but I did take the drug. Should I be worried?

Wait or just go for it?

Happy 4th, everyone! I am looking to join but have some loose ends to tie up. I am male 37 5’9” 240lbs. I have worked to lose 50lbs so far and should be under 200lbs in a few months. I also have to get my stretched ears sewn closed, which I already have the ball rolling on. My question is, should I speak with someone now to get things started, or should I wait? I’m kind of anxious to get things going. Thank you in advance!

separation from navy

hi fellow redditors, im in quite the dilemma here. some backstory before i start. 24 female with about 2 credits missing for my bachelor’s degree. (why didn’t i finish and enlist as an officer? well, couldn’t afford it. that’s why i’m here.) i joined the navy in hopes to get out with an accrediting rad tech license and get some medical experience while im getting paid but turns out its really not that simple to do. my recruiter basically lied to me and said that i could pick my C school after im done with A school (damn lie) and being top 10% of my class would make it easier for me. what she failed to mention was that yes, i can do that but after my first command which can take 2-3 years depending on how long i’m stationed there. she also didn’t mention that for my rate, it’s possible to be greenside and i honestly dont want to do that. i did my research before i even signed the contract and the rate sounds great but i honestly dont know if it’s even worth it anymore. ive been pretty depressed about it basically the entirety of A school and yeah i know A school isnt the fleet. (doesnt help that im phase 1 and cant go out) cant see my family and just missing my life before i even joined. yeah people say to embrace the suck but how can i do that when im in a constant state of uncertainty? i was thinking about ELS since i’m under that 180 day period but how will i know if things will improve for me if i leave? what about the benefits i leave behind? im extremely homesick on top of that and knowing ill be further from them just makes it worse. my life back at home honestly wasn’t that bad, just the part where i cant afford college and im in a situation where i cant take out loans or get scholarships. i feel like my life is on a timeline and being 24 just now trying to figure it out i guess makes me weary. i sound like a weak ass sailor who probably shouldn’t have joined the navy but here i am, trying to figure out my decisions. id love some input or advice on what to do. and yes, chaps will be hearing from me next week lol.

HMDA Marine commands?

Hey Yall, just reclassed to an HMDA from an ITS due to claustrophobia. I’m wondering what is the expectation of what my first command will be like? I want to be a greenside corpsman, and i’m aware of marine dental battalions being a thing? Really, I just want to connect with other HMDAs, and find out what I should expect. Will I go to FMTB? How can I do my best to secure a role with the marine corps as an HMDA. If my expectations are unrealistic, or if anything i’m saying is confusing, please let me know. Real excited as I just found out from an NMTI that HMDAs go greenside often.

Would I be able to train as a pro fighter simultaneously with my service in the Navy?

I am planning to join, and most likely would go for a full 20 years service but I also have been training martial arts for many years and would want to go pro in MMA soon, I know boot camp and A school will take away time from that but after when I get my job and base could I get a pass to train at MMA dojos after work and participate in fights every year?

So my recruiter isn’t much help and tells me to just bring myself and the clothes on my back - but what about my phone and hygiene stuff? Am i allowed to bring running shoes? or jewelry like i have so many questions that are constantly being answered in different ways and i just need someone to be real and give me a guideline of what to bring. I’m a woman btw so im also wondering if we’re allowed to bring feminine products or if they supply us with them
