Is being a Naval Aviator the best path for my circumstances?

Hey y'all, for a while I've been strongly considering becoming a Naval Aviator. For some background, I'm (nearly) 26 I have a degree in music education (3.91 GPA) and have been an elementary music teacher for 3 years now. I got married last year and the teacher salary is starting to show its limits. I considered doing this year's board and starting OCS end of this year / beginning of next year but we decided that we just needed more time to make the decision and prepare given that it's a ~10 year commitment that will likely put a lot of strain on our marriage and while the money and benefits will be great for starting a family, the deployments will obviously lead to me being a less present father than I would otherwise like to be.

Naval Aviation has been the idea since it leads to a very lucrative career once out of the Navy (also its fucking awesome) but the 10 year commitment, long deployments, and current state of the world has led to us seeking other possibilities.

The military is still our dominant prospect but I'm curious if y'all can shed any light on what other military pathways could lead to a similarly lucrative post-military career and with a potentially shorter commitment (even if just by a few years).

We're still prepared to go ahead with the Naval Aviator path in a year's time but we just want to feel as secure as we can in whatever decision we make, especially given that whatever we decide will be a MAJOR commitment.

I'd be happy to hear any advice y'all have; also any anecdotes from Naval Aviators about your experiences would be great to hear. Thank y'all!

Honest advice on going enlisted to officer

Hey,

I'm 22 years old, and I have a year of my college degree left in EE/Physics. I know that I want to join the Navy regardless, I'm just having a hard time picking what the best option is between going enlisted active duty or just staying put and applying to OCS straight after graduating. Recruiters on both ends, the enlisted and officer sides say that either side is lying to me just to get numbers, so I dont know who to trust. I want a change and to make money and I'm okay with having my graduation date pushed back a couple of years because of A school and boot camp. I just want to know if the path from enlisted to officer is likely to happen. I read somewhere that the odds of being selected are 3-5%. I also want to point out that i cannot do the rest of my degree online due to engineering being a very hands on degree. Give me your very real and honest advice and is the path from enlisted to officer harder than people make it out to be? My recuiter also said that I can go back to school 4 months after A school, is that true?

BDCP acceptance to be a pilot

I’m applying for the BDCP program for either Naval Aviator or NFO.
I am a 19F. Right now I have a 3.3 GPA finishing my sophomore year at embry riddle, but I’m taking 2 more classes this summer to try and bring it up. I’m majoring in Air Traffic Management with a minor in Aviation Safety. I’m physically fit, already have a first-class medical, and I’ve been active on campus with an officer position in one of my organizations.
I want to apply as soon as possible, but I’m wondering if I realistically have a competitive shot at BDCP aviation with my current stats. Is the GPA a big issue for pilot/NFO selection, or would the leadership/extracurriculars help balance it out? Also, is there anything specific I should focus on before applying? I plan on studying for the specialized tests.

Ok, I took advice from my last post. I’ll add what my dealbreakers are and what I prefer.

I can adapt to any condition so whether it’s a “hot” or “cold” condition I don’t really mind. A dealbreaker would be anything with heavy machinery and front line Infantry positions. With that being said, a bonus would be any skills that transfer good to the civilian world. I appreciate any tips and help/information on said rate

Fell for misinfo and got undes and now im gonna puke. Some questions

I was goin into MA, but wanted something in aviation. This is AFTER being told that GM wasn't available and fell for them saying "you'll shadow aviation rates for a while since you can't decide". That was while I was at meps. I really didn't want MA but also my recruiter who's been helpful told me APACT ain't bad.

Im on a time limit because my lease is ending and my job isnt paying me NEARLY enough to pay rent. So I took it because it didnt seem harmful. How screwed am I? I can't change back now or anything, but will I actually be able to choose my rate at the end of this or are they gonna make me CS or keep me where I am? Is cross-rating out impossible? I really don't know wtf I'm doing at all and it feels like no one is actually gonna give me any honest information at all not even my recruiter who's been helpful since I met him.

I just feel like I fucked over my entire life possibly because the jobs I wanted I were told weren't available

How does BAH actually work?

I keep hearing conflicting information from both the army benefits website and recruiters.

Is it based off of where my husband will be based or where I live (off base) with our child?

Does it start during bootcamp?

Does it matter if he becomes a seal or swcc?

Is it true they look at your financial business to determine if you qualify for a job?

I want to get IT and my scores are well for IT. I know there’s a factor that it might not be available. I also heard they look at your financial stuff? Is this true? So I need to pay all my debts, or show I’m on payment plans before I go to Meps?

How to get into shape

To put it simple, I have not joined yet but I’m very interested. However I’m worried about my physical shape. I can run and have decent endurance for cardio but my upper body strength is genuinely non existent. What exercises can I do to improve my upper body strength? I currently max out around 20-25 clean pushups and can hold a plank for a little over a minute, but after looking at the requirements online I’m cooked 😭

Hey recruiters, ever have an ETP approved?

Navy Recruiting Command is going to going to initiate a pre-screen to see if I meet the criteria for an Exception to Policy (ETP).  This review is expected to be completed by the second week in June. What is the likelihood of getting this approved so I can ship? Thanks for any stories or info.

Congressman made a few calls after I got morally denied.

General questions about aecf rate

So I officially swore in to the navy and chose the aecf rate as my recruiter made it seem pretty interesting and it came with a 30k bonus and promotion up to e-3. But overall I have some general questions namely being, I’ve heard all sorts of things about how hard tech school could be? I got a 72 on my asvab and have no issue studying and understanding concepts for the most part. And my second question is mainly what civilian career fields could this lead into. Any information no matter how small helps, thanks!

Edit if anyone could give me a general idea of what a day to day would be like and what sort of quality of life I can expect that will also be a huge help!

Do you regret choosing the navy over another branch?

Like the title says. Do you regret going navy? I’ve been working with an Army recruiter for OCS, but I had a medical thing come up and we’re working on a waiver. He mentioned to try the navy because he works closely with a navy recruiter that typically can get people in easier than he can with Army.

I’m wanting to do OCS.
Bachelors Degree in Information Technology 3.9 GPA Honors graduate
References from a 04-army and an 05-army. I also have references from the President of my university and the department head of my university.

While Navy has never been a choice of mine (would prefer Army due to move location options) it would be a viable option if Army denies my waiver request. I don’t think the will…. But you never know. I’ve also seen navy OCS is way less competitive compared to army.

I’m soon to go in for the navy. I have my MEPS and PICAT done but are any of these worth going in off?

I have done my research on some and have seen the description of said rates however I would like to hear from actual people that are in to help shape my decision. I appreciate any and all inputs

My Waiver was denied, What could I do to try again?

I had been diagnosed with Bipolar disorder in November 2025, and took medication for it for only two weeks. After that I wanted to join the navy, I went back to the same psychologist who for them to say that I was never diagnosed with it. But whenever I had went to MEPS they had said it showed up on my medical record.

After this, my waivers were denied and my recruiter said I should wait a year before trying again. I'm going to do that but I want to prepare ahead of time for my next visit, What documents should I get / bring to make sure I can get in the navy? I had one bad month, I don't think it reflects who I am as a person and I believe I can serve in the navy.

Got denied for anxiety for MA rate.

So I recently went to MEPS to sign a contract. I was hoping to get MA, I did my clearance form etc and when the person at MEPS sent it in for review I was denied due to anxiety but that doesn’t make sense because my anxiety stuff was waived to join because it was not a severe issue for me never even taken meds. How can i go about appealing this and finding out the exact reason I was denied?
