Questions About Jobs/Availability/Canceled boards (more details below)

Hey all,

I'm starting the process and my recruiter asked me to look over job options/inform myself before letting them know what I want to go for. From what I understood, SWO positions are open for this year but IO positions are closed until mid next-year/boards got canceled this year. If anyone knows stuff/can talk about these positions and what they did it'd be appreciated!

A bit about me: I don't know too much about SWO but my own background is in foreign studies/finance (I speak a few of the critical/strategic languages fluently).

.gov entry level positions in those fields are pretty competitive nowadays, and I have gotten absolutely shanked on interviews because I have 0 work experience, so I'm looking to join for experience & the post 9/11 GI bill (planning to do law school afterwards). Ideally I am trying to set myself up for a fulfilling career that matches my interests/wouldn't seem like I picked something random when I apply for law schools.

I'm unsure if I should go for SWO or wait until IO positions open back up. Any advice? SWO could let me work with IO stuff/managerial stuff if I get OOD, but that sounds like a carrot they'd dangle in my face to try and convince me to sign for more years.

Not too sure on the timeline for this, but either way I'll take OAR soon so I'll focus on studying for that

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Does anyone have a better way to think about this, or parallel flaws in general? Aside from diagramming the only way that stood out to me was thinking about category to category and looking for an answer choice that mismatched the categories as well.

Questions: Going from Civilian (Recent Graduate) to OCS

Hey all,

I'm looking into commissioning and had a few questions since I was not able to find info/will be talking to an official recruiter soon.

  1. How competitive are intel/financial/supply officer positions, and what physical scores are needed to be competitive for those positions during OCS?

Ex. I heard that intel and finance is competitive in the army, and only 1 (if any) graduates from an OCS class will get those positions, so getting the most points on the 4 mile run (≤ 30 mins) is important.

  1. Around how long does the process take? Assuming letters of recommendation and height/weight, along with naval PT standards are met on my end within the next 3 months.

Also, is there any physical test that requires advance preparation? i.e. long-distance rucking. I did look this up- was only able to find out that OCS tests you according to PT standards.

^I'm currently looking into different branches to see which one would give me the best chance (as in having the most spots) to work in the fields that I am interested in.

Thanks!

Basic Q's

Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone has a chart on the weekly physical standards we'll be measured on while at OCS? I'm new to the process (just set up my first meeting with the recruiter) but want to make sure that I have the proper info to prep myself with.

Ex. What's up with the 4 mile run? Is it just a participation event now?
