How binding is binding?

The school I’m depositing at wants me to sign a binding agreement that “I have withdrawn from all other schools with the intention of attending X Law. I understand that this is a binding commitment to attend X Law.”

However, I am still waiting to see if I get off of any waitlists for my top choices. Is this commitment really binding if I get off a waitlist in the future? Is it an asshole move to sign it and stay on waitlists?

Edit: Edit to say I will reach out to the school directly to ask as well :) Didn’t know if it was a faux pas to mention WLs at other schools hence asking this sub first!

Q from BL associate about that thing

Junior lit associate at v10 went to T14. Really curious how prospective Law students are thinking about AI in terms of their decision-making.

Here’s what I mean. A year ago when I would express my anxiety about it, I would get laughed off. “ it’s slop” “ it’s awful” “ hallucinates, makes mistakes” “ time spent reviewing is more than time saved”

But now that anxiety has entered the mainstream And our conversations at lunch are now “ pretty much can do everything I can do” “ how are we gonna add value in a couple years from now when the clients/partners catch on?” “We’re fucked” etc. “ what is the thinking in hiring all these 1Ls”

On a personal note, I use LLMs for every single one of my work streams. And I’ve gotten extremely good reviews on my work, getting recognized by the group head etc. But it kills me deep inside. It’s like well wasn’t really fully my work… they’re gonna catch on that anyone can really do this.

I’m not saying I know where this all goes, because no one does. And I love litigating so I hope it just gives more people the opportunity to do this and more representation, etc..

Curious how ppl here are thinking about it in terms of decision making. Weather in terms of school choice. Loans, etc..

Hopefully, I’m not bringing bad vibes lol

And feel free to ask me anything about big Law, clerkships if I can be helpful

8% federal loan or 5.56% private loan?

I'm starting law school this fall and I'm only going to need to borrow around $50,000/year. At first I was set on just taking the $50k federal unsubsidized loan (because of the income-driven payment plans) but then I got a private loan offer at an interest rate much lower than the federal rate:

5.56% APR on $50k loan. 10 years fixed.

For reference, the federal loan interest rate is 8.07%.

I'm at a T14 law school and am planning on going into big law. Which one do you think I should do?

ASU or apply again next year?

Should I start ASU in august or apply again next year if goal is NYC biglaw? I'm hoping I'll at least get into Fordham but can't count on it. I'm also waitlisted at Cornell, can that mean I might get in if I apply earlier next year?

Should I send a LOCI?

I’d like to know thoughts on sending a LOCI before receiving a decision. I’ve yet to hear from my top choice school and I’m toying with the idea of signaling continued interest. Is it a little premature to send one at this stage?

Is it normal I haven’t heard back from Notre Dame

I applied in Jan. I’m sure it’s a rejection and I already plan on going to GW if I can’t get off waitlists (which knowing Vandy and CLs- I won’t). But?? Is this weird?? Should I call?

Why so much GULC hate?

I see more GULC hate here than any other school, but nobody ever really seems to actually say why they hate it so much. Yes, I know about the controversy with graduation being moved and that the dean of admissions is a bit of a prick, but that doesn't really explain the way people talk about it on this sub.

I want to go in to environmental PI and it seems like a great option because of being in D.C. and having seemingly robust options for experiential learning.

Non Trad, Late Application Cycle

Very excited to make this post. Stats in image. 33 YO, married non-trad, 5 month old child. 9 Year Marine Corps veteran, 2 Years tech sales work experience post-military. Graduated undergrad in '15. Live in the Philly suburbs, so geography was crucial. Applied late in cycle after navigating having a child. Used my LSAT from 2023 that I studied for on my last deployment. This thread was a useful resource in preparing my materials (and gradually eroding my self-confidence). Congratulations to everyone out there matriculating this fall, best of luck to anyone applying next cycle.

Goodbye WL Hell — USC A!!!

Accepted to the Elliot Gould School of Looks and Law at USC!

Was resigned to an R&R this cycle after being waitlisted everywhere, but looks like I'll be going to law school after all. Got $$$ and am already LA based, so feeling quite good even though I know my deadline applications hurt my results overall.

I'll continue to ride WL at Mich and UCLA, but super happy with this outcome should those not work out.
