Please tell me I squeaked by!

Please tell me I squeaked by!

Took my Picat today. I desperately want Avionics (AV). I added up my line scores for what Google told me I needed for avionics. I missed the first line score by one point but hit it exactly for the second line score option. Can someone confirm for me I qualified for the Avionics route.

I go to MEPS on Thursday!!

Hey yall. I posted on here some months ago and wanted to give you all the news that I’m finally taking the plunge. I recently turned 41 this month, female, and just got word my prescreen came back. I’m taking the picat on Wednesday, then going to MEPS Thursday to verify and Friday for the physical. I’ve been studying on my weak points (mostly math) and I’m confident I’ll score high enough to get the rate I want (Avionics). I’m excited but a little nervous. Can’t wait for this next adventure in my life.

Do they feed you at all while at MEPS ? Or should I plan to be buying food while I’m there?

Was my recruiter mistaken?

Just curious as he and the other recruiter in the office both said they raised the enlisting age to 42? And ship to boot before 43. I thought it was 41 and ship before 42 but they said they changed it. This won’t affect me as I’m still 40 but I’m curious for a friend.

Question about a growth, full removal vs biopsy only

Hello all. I posted a bit ago about a small 6mm growth in my mouth. I honestly forgot about it as it’s been there for years and is completely asymptomatic. While at the dentist, they pointed it out. I told them I forgot it was even there. It is most likely a benign growth but I know I’ll need to have a pathology report to prove so before I can go to MEPS. I spoke with a recruiter twice and was in the process of getting my high school and college transcripts and the dentist found this after my initial meetings with recruiter. While waiting for transcripts to be mailed I havnt been back to the recruiter. And I thought it was best to get this taken care of and proof of a benign growth before I went back to him as to not waste his time. But I think I will go back and talk to him about this because I need some advice on how exactly to take care of the growth. He was unaware of the growth the first two times we met because I literally forgot it was even there.

My question to you all, out of pure curiosity before I ask my recruiter..

Should this growth be fully removed? Or just a biopsy? Full removal would be considered a surgery and I’ve read MEPS usually wants a 3 to 6 month waiting period for complete healing. Whereas a simple biopsy wouldn’t count as surgery, but even if the pathology report shows it’s benign the growth would still be there. What is my best option to get medically cleared the fastest? The concern lies in the fact that I turn 41 in one month, so every month counts so I can ship before I turn 42.

I’ll probably stop in the office this week to discuss with him and bring my transcripts. But any advice from those in the know would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Earnings not showing up on card

Anyone else having this problem right now? I did two deliveries for a total of $20 and it’s not showing in my account so I’m having to sit at a gas station waiting for their “technical issues” to resolve. This is BS!

EDIT: Just received my earnings!

Question about dental

Dental work is so expensive so I’ve gone without getting some work done over the years as I couldn’t afford it. I have about 5 or 6 teeth with visible holes, not cavities, but previously drilled out cavities with the fillings eroding over time thus leading to partially filled teeth. Basically they just need new filings to replace the old ones. They are on my bottom molars, my smile and front teeth are good with no visible issues. I know they do dental at boot, just wanted some reassurance I’d be able to clear meps with needing some fillings replaced.

Thanks for any info.

How many of you actually got your top choice when you filled out your dream sheet?

Just curious how many lucky folks actually got their first pick. If you did, what rate are you?

I’ve read so many people say they got the opposite of what they wanted. Almost like you should fill your dream sheet in backwards from what you really want.

Do IT’s actually land six figure jobs in civilian life these days?

With AI taking over..wondering if IT is still a rate worth looking into in today’s world with hopes of making good money when out.

I’ve considered so far…STG, but being on a destroyer as someone who gets motion sick idk..plus it doesn’t really translate to civilian jobs as much. HM…I have some previous background in some medical. But, with the slow rank up and honestly not the highest paying civilian hospital jobs etc..Then I go back to considering IT. Do most IT’s go on carriers? Are there any spots for them on shore? Honestly at my age of 40, almost 41 if I do decide to enlist, I want to do something I can get out and make really good money. Cyber Security sounded interesting but I don’t really want to be in a windowless room for years. At least with IT if I get assigned a ship, I would travel.

I’m just lost and can’t make up my mind. Enlisting would flip my whole world upside down. Not necessarily in a bad way as I’m down and out and honestly enlisting would be a great opportunity for me. I’m having trouble accepting I’d have to leave my friends and dog for months or even years, depending where the navy puts me. But I would be bettering my future. How do yall cope with leaving behind loved ones and pets while enlisted?

Timeline for ranking up as HM?

How long does it take to rank up to E5 as a Corpsman? Assuming I go in as E3. I’ve heard it takes a long time. My main goal is to reach E5
ASAP to get BAH to live off base. I’m single and no children.

Are there any specific NEC’s that would rank up faster?

Thanks for any replies.

I’m 40 and female and have posted a few times about other rates. I have discovered what I really want to do is be a medic in the field with the marines. I do have an associates in MRI technology but I feel like being in a hospital all day would bore me. I’m more into the liking of being a part of a greenside battalion and working along side marines. I’m too old to enlist as a marine, and it seems the HM rate greenside field medic would be a loophole for me to do the job I really want to do. I’m also already living in north county SD, so it would be amazing if I got lucky and was stationed at Camp Pendleton or Miramar.

Any insight on how to go about securing this role? I’ve read many HM prefer not to do field work and would rather work in hospitals which I think would increase my chance of getting what I want?
