I know, I know, one of them is 2000s. This is just a batch of foreign issues of some well known Marvel comics.
Calvin and Hobbes is probably the comic I will name if asking for the best of all time.
I collected just about everything C&H and because of the lack of official merchandising it’s easier than most things to do so.
It’s not like pristine at all and I may have upgraded after this one, I don’t recall, but this was tough to find even in presentable copy for awhile and j do recall be happy with it as at least a stand in.
Like I said before I was a giant Joe fan so I definitely hunted for everything related to the early Marvel stuff.
Again, I’m chiefly an original comic art collector these days but I still do have some odd ephemera I pick up and this is one.
This is like a color guide for a cover of a Spider-Man 2099.
As an aside a lot of these 2099 titles have incredible covers in their later issues. I recall getting them all Idk probably 20 years ago or so.
One of my many little collecting verticals (even just within the 90s) is Vertigo related stuff and this is like a little counter standee promoting Death.
Cool Chris Bachalo art. I loved Bachalo around this time.
Again I really enjoyed Defiant and this is by one of my favorite cartoonists in David Lapham.
This feels like a sister piece to the Valeria litho I shared the other day even though it’s a different publisher.
These came like this (framed) though I’m aware a huge number of rolled ones were found probably a decade ago (I have many).
Fun fact, this character never appeared in a comic.
So I mostly collect original comic art now which is usually the original pencils/inks or a painting etc and I rarely buy other production related material for comics (though I guess this is relative, I may have a lot compared to most people but it’s not something that particularly interests me) but I do have a handful of things I’ve picked up like let’s say I’ve already won a couple of original pieces in an auction, if I see something like this to add on to the pile I’ll go for it, more novelty than anything else but they can be cool.
This is the color art from Darker Image of the first page from the Deathblow story. I know some people ragged on Jim Lee about Deathblow but tbh I never was on that bandwagon, I liked it and wished he would have stayed with it.
I grabbed this because I vividly remembered when Darker Image came out and I was so excited (and I love The Maxx) and like I said I already had one other lore I targeted and just threw this on as an extra.
I’m not sure if things that aren’t exactly comics are welcome/allowed here but for now let’s share this one lol.
So I guess I will post some Marvel from this era. I love the Marvel G.I. Joe run and I’ve always loved Xamot and Tomax, and this is their first appearance issue. Not hard to get but I love them.
One copy is from the Don Rosa pedigree and the other is from the Golden State collection.
This is what Neal Adams was up to during the 90s boom with Continuity.
This is a signed litho of Valeria from that time.
I have all the Marvel and DC stuff of this era too to but I figure sprinkle some variety. Hope people don’t mind.
These came framed like this.
I loved 1963 and all the creators involved. This is the ashcan for Mystery Incorporated. I’ve posted a bunch of Image ashcans before from this era here so going to the same well.
I actually really loved Defiant while it lasted. Love David Lapham art.
Just sharing some more era appropriate random comics from the stash for the feed.
So some people asked for more pics of my copy of pre-magazine format Wizard and it didn’t seem like I could add more pics to it in post so sorry for the new post.
As you can see there is a Cap pic and all the early Wizard information (Gareb etc) and the address of the comic shop it was sent to. I’m not from the Illinois area but I’ve been collecting comics for a long time and I’ve seen Moon Dog ads in comics and my understanding is this is a very well known old school shop and dealer/collector. I bought this directly from him many many years ago. I want to say his name was Gary but don’t quote me on that. I’m pretty sure it is, I stopped collecting back issues comics having got everything I wanted like 15-20 years ago so comic collecting info, which I do know a thing or two about, isn’t all my fresh to my mind.
These are all the pics I have on hand (I have multiple homes and my comics are not at this one) so anyone who wants to see the price guide part I just don’t have it on hand.
Again sorry for the extra post.
I promise this won’t be a daily thing posting here lol but thought I’d share Wizard before it became a magazine sized publication. It’s like pocket/letter sized.
Just going through more some stuff still and thought I’d share. I have a bunch of these sealed too. Idk what I was doing in the early 2000s lol with what I bought.
The other day there was a post about I think Darker Image variants and in the comments I mentioned there was an ashcan and I just happen to posting these pics on my substack today and thought it would be fairly topical to post them here too.
What was mentioned in that previous post here was that the Darker Image variant was the black and white art and what's cool about these ashcans is also is t's the B&W art.
I have hundreds of these things and here are just a few.
