Rental Advice
Hi everyone,
I’m relocating to Galway in the near future for a new job as an engineer, and like many others, I am hitting an absolute brick wall with Daft and Rent.ie. I’ve set up immediate alerts, but spaces seem to disappear instantly or I just get radio silence on my applications.
I know the housing situation in Galway is a total nightmare right now, so I’m not here to ask for easy answers. I'm just hoping to get some local insight on alternative strategies or where else I should be looking.
A bit about me:
- 26M, French, moving for a full-time, stable engineering role.
- Non-smoker, no pets, easy-going, and very used to shared/apartment living since I’ve lived in Italy Switzerland, Spain, The Netherlands.
- Looking for either a 1-2 bed apartment or a double room in an established house share.
-Budget is flexible for the right place, and I have all my documentation (landlord references, work reference, proof of funds) ready to send over instantly.
My questions for the locals:
1 Are there specific Facebook groups that are actually active and moderated (not just filled with scammers)?
2 Do local estate agencies handle tenant waiting lists if I contact them directly, or do they only look at Daft applications?
3 Are there any particular commuter areas (like Oranmore, Claregalway, etc.) that have better luck, or is the gridlock traffic not worth the trade-off?
If anyone knows of a room coming up, an independent landlord looking for a professional tenant, or just has a tip on how to beat the Daft algorithm, I’d be incredibly grateful.
Thanks a million!
