When someone says “I’m on my way” but they have not left yet
This is such a small thing but it annoys me every time.
If you say “I’m on my way,” I assume you are actually on the way. Shoes on, keys in hand, walking, driving, waiting for the bus, whatever.
Not still at home looking for your charger.
I have a friend who does this constantly. We’ll agree to meet at 6, I’ll text at 5:55 asking if they’re close, and they’ll say “yeah I’m on my way.”
Then at 6:15 they text “leaving now.”
So you were not on your way. You were just aware that leaving was an option.
I don’t even mind late as much when people are honest about it. Just say “sorry, haven’t left yet.” Then I can sit down, order something, or stop standing outside like an idiot.
But “on my way” should mean your body has left the building. Not that you have started thinking about maybe leaving soon.
