Completed interview process, was told role put on hold

There's something I'd like your take on. A month and change ago, I applied for a job. Went through several rounds of interviews, stakeholders, all the way to the final round. Throughout the process, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, super communicative and very warm. After the final round, they said, "we'll let you know by the end of the week". At the end of the week, "I'm so sorry, we've had some other priorities come up, we'll need a few days more". And then the final message stating that the role was put on hold for at least a month due to other priorities, but they also copied my would-be boss, stating it's so that we can move quickly should things reopen. They also restated how impressed they were.

What do I make of this? I don't think they're lying, but then again, the last time I was on the job market was like a decade ago. At the same time, I think that if they wanted to turn me down, they'd just thank me for my time and give me the "we're pursuing other candidates" spiel. Do I follow up after a month or do I forget and move on?

Thank you in advance.
