Shoutout to Virginia DOT (seriously)

look, I never thought I'd type or say anything like that, but for real...

The updates to traffic patterns on Arlington Blvd/Route 50 in Arlington have been fantastic. Most of the non-protected left turns are now illegal as per signage. More than that, they've added bright yellow traffic delineators to the very middle of the road, preventing even more left turns.

There is ZERO reason anyone needs to turn left from a 6 lane highway onto these tiny side streets. Just go another quarter mile and use a lighted intersection.

Can't tell you how many near-accidents I used to see from Uber/Doordash drivers slamming on their brakes in the left lane to make a last second turn. Seen a few real accidents too and only barely avoided being involved in them myself.

The signs don't stop anyone from trying, obviously. I've encountered a few. I encourage you to honk at them ruthlessly if you see them doing this. It's illegal for a very good reason (unlike...at least half of Arlington's No Turn on Red signs).
