Hello! I've just had a placement scan at 5 weeks 3 day to rule out an ectopic pregnancy (due to earlier bleeding and left sided pain from 3.5 - 4.5 weeks which then resolved). And the results have left me confused.
Initially the doctor said my uterus was empty. She was leaning towards calling it an ectopic pregnancy until she was starting the remove the wand and suddenly shouted 'oh!' - she'd found the gestational sack right up in the right hand corner of my uterus. She said it was hard to find because it was 'hiding' up there, and because I have a heart-shaped uterus which is "twisted" apparently - she seemed confused by that and kept asking if I'd had surgery, which I haven't.
She spent what felt like a long time confirming it was definitely in the endometrium and not the mouth of the fallopian tube (which would have made it an interstitial ectopic pregnancy). She said the GS and yolk sack sizes lined up with my dates - no fetal pole or heartbeat but that isn't surprising at 5+3 weeks. I asked if the placement was anything to worry about and she said no, but a quick such online tells me that 'angular pregnancies' (pregnancies located within 5mm of the fallopian tube entrance) have a very high risk of miscarriage and potentially dangerous maternal outcomes. I don't know if I fit within the definition of angular pregnancy, but she seemed to imply that the GS was right up there in the corner.
I'm getting another scan in 11 days to look for a heartbeat, but I want to go in with realistic expectations. This doctor was extremely dismissive and keen to get rid of me, so I'm not convinced she's giving me all the information. Can anyone share their experience of a corner pregnancy? Or pregnancy with a heart-shape or twisted uterus?
Additional info - she identified something like a small cyst on my left ovary which could be the cause of the pain. I have PCOS so this is not hugely surprising. I also have adenomyosis which was visible in the scan. I have a history of one MMC and one CP (last cycle).
