Am I being unreasonable or is this awful craftsmanship for a brand-new pair of Tecovas The Doc?
I just bought a brand new pair of Tecovas The Doc, and I’m pretty disappointed with what I’m seeing around the leather seams.
There are noticeable gaps along the edges, areas that look like the leather is separating, and some frayed fibers and rough finishing around the stitching. For a new pair of boots at this price point, I honestly expected better attention to detail.
I understand that leather is a natural material and that handmade products aren’t going to be perfectly uniform. I’m not expecting machine-perfect boots, and I don’t mind natural grain, creasing, or minor variations in the leather. But this looks like a construction or finishing issue to me, not just character in the leather.
I’m attaching close-up photos so you can judge for yourselves.
For those of you who own Tecovas, particularly The Doc:
- Is this normal for Tecovas, or did I get a poorly finished pair?
- Am I being overly picky, or would you consider this unacceptable craftsmanship on a brand-new boot?
- Would you exchange them or ask for a refund?
